Re: HP's and TI's calculator output rate

Hi Stefan,

maybe HP has switched priorities away from the calculator market.
They seem to concentrate on cheap printers and (not so cheap)
Scanners and Vectras since these markets are more profitable.

On the other hand, the HP48 (and the HP38G) were well designed to
last many years. Remember, the HP48 was planned in the late 80's.
Compare to the HP41 which was in production for about ten years.

The machines are still easy to use, have enough memory.
The user interface could be a bit faster, but there are some solutions
for this problem (JAVA, SpeedBrowser, FORM-Engine etc).

As I stated some time ago, 'research' is important, but if that research
produces new calcs every year, you could think that the design may
not be very good. If it were, the machines would last longer than
one or two years.

Another point:
HP made the OmniGo 1x0 Series last (?) year which were interesting.
They had no success because they lacked a good display and
AC power connector. You could watch the batteries go empty.
If they didn't have these problems, many people would have bought
one, I think.

Ok that's it for today;-)

Greetings

Raymond
