Umm, when I say "Most" I mean afew of the cable modem standards use an ATM
backbone.  Others use different standards.

That DOESN'T make me unsure, it makes me sure about most of the good ones.

Do to the fact Alaska has bad cable laid, we (GCI) decided to use Com21
because they are very good  with noise.

I have a 400ft cable running from my house to a trunk amp and my signal
only looses 1db (as far as the cable modem is concerned.

The other cable modems tested were used to being 50feet away from a
community amp.  In AK, houses are very far apart and we're lucky to get the
cable modem service at all.  :)
