RE: A89: Me distributing roms.

Well, you need to consider two more things:

1) RAID arrays. For example, a single 18Gb drive can saturate a fibrechannel
if you are doing sequential read (100Mbytes/sec). Now, you never do
sequential read, but generally you say that 4 disks can saturate a SCSI
channel, so say 8 ro 10 disks to saturate the fibrechannel. Then stick 10-15
of those controllers in your box, and you are at those speeds, with a total
of only about 100 disks (this is with full fault tolerance). You will need
multiple PCI busses too, to sustain these speeds, btw. (And no, these are
not unusual configurations for large systems. A typical *cheap* TPC system
uses somewhere between 400 and 800 disks).

2) Cache. If you are serving things at this speed, you would more normally
be serving a lot of stuff out of you cace. Stash 8Gb of RAM in your box, and
you can cache most of what you need.

Then again, somebody has to be able to read at that speed. And that is not
something you can very much do over the internet today. The backbone links
just can't handle it.
