Here's a not so great ASCII sketch of how I might do it:

Now here's the trick:
Make a key that when you stick it in the small hole under
one of the middle batteries it connects the wires and allows safe
communication. I think there are three wires that come from the
link port and you have to be careful not to mix them up. It
can be as simple or complex as you want but only you
should have the key. This would be very simple to do and I would hope it
wouldn't require any soldering or major electrical know-how. Quite a
simple operation, and it will keep all of the pesky people from stealing
your games or sending bugged up programs, viruses, etc.
