TI Marches Onward
Posted by Michael on 9 August 2003, 21:14 GMT

TI has redesigned their calculator website, education.ti.com. The layout looks much better than the old version, in my opinion. There also is a new tutorials section, linking to a large number of tutorials on a variety of topics for all popular TI calculators. Unfortuately the 86 isn't covered, nor has TI made it easy to find mention of it anywhere.

TI also recently sold their 25 millionth graphing calculator, as noted in this press release.

Ya say the 86 is not mentioned anymore, well it still is: http://education.ti.com/ us/product/ othergraph.html You find that under the Other and Discontinued Graphing option on the graphing handhelds and accessories menu.

If it is discontinued and you still want to buy one. Go to your local Target, we still have them available, at least we do at my Target. Well they still have them online too! But there is always e-bay for that.

The one the 86 is in the "Other Graphing Products" list, which is not discontinued for the last time!

Same colours, different layout. Looks better, though...but I doubt that I'll be visiting there except for OS updates any time soon. TI seems to have hidden anything useful deep within the bowels of its website. Blah.

The colors are purely psycological. Orange is for getting your attention and hooking you long enough to look around but it makes you want to leave as fast as it makes you want to stay. THe blue I'm not sure on but I believe it is there to counter the negative effects of orange.

their website is for people who just bought a product and looked at the cover and saw "education.ti.com" and now need more info on whatever the product is... the only reason i go there is for the cartoon and to check if they put the link to calcgames.org back up.

Some of those are just sick. They need more than a life, how about a whole new realm! Join the programmers, put the calculator to some actualy use people!

I don't like what they've done. All of the links from the old calc. URLs just redirect to education.ti.com and I have to search for things instead of just going to the article that the link pointed to. Maybe they are in the process of updating hyperlinks.

The staff was probably really tied up in the first week of school, that is if it was their first week, it's mine anyway.

*coughnewnewsarticlecough* :)

Maybe we need to make new news happen. Um... "n00b TI-BASIC Programmer makes Guess The Number 2000! This unique guess the number program uses PROMPT instead of INPUT to guess a <oooh>RANDOMLY GENERATED</oooh> number from ONE TO TEN! Have HOURS OF FUN with Guess the Number 2000 (or GTN, for short). Oh, there is a special fee to download ($20), but I think it is worth it! ORDER YOUR COPY TODAY! (Available only for the TI-82)"

Wow, I would suck as a news writer ;-)

Why is it that only peoplpe in this community would have fun baggin on calculators or making sarcastic jokes on them? I don't mind doing it, but if you do it to someone who loves there new calculator as a calculator, not for programming and games and the incredible math capabilities, then they would feel shammed and chastised.

There are three kinds of calculator addicts - programmers (even wanabies), and those who suck at math (ie they are dependant on a calculator).

Well, I have a TI-82, and I like it... I just thought it was funny. :) Everybody gets hyped over making their programs (even if they aren't that great). I remember getting all excited over one of my basic games (you can look around at the link)... now I realize why everybody thought I was such a n00b. :) Anyway, it was just a fun joke, not meant to hurt anybody.

Okay, I can easily understand how that sounded a little bad. I'm just stating the point that the people who actually use the calculators as a tool or as a "serious" gaming platform know considerably more about the calcs than most. Though the calculators have some bad points, the have more good points so we (the knoledgable) pick on the bad points to encourage fixes and/or the creation of supplimental programs. The situation I'm trying to describ is analogus to Windose Literate users and Windows How-did-you-do-that users.

Hey, that's fine. Most of us (well, maybe not me) have normal lives, too. Also, school might take up a lot of extra time, but that's understandable.

No problem. I hope you do realize I'm just saying that because I have/had nothing else better to do. We are all gratefull for you guys. I'm going to spend about 15 hours at school today (all acedemic, except right now, no extracurricular activities). If you want to here why, just ask. But, be prepared, I could go on for a while!
