TI Connect v1.2.1 and 73 Explorer
Posted by Michael on 6 March 2003, 01:07 GMT

TI Connect v1.2.1 has been released. The key update is that TI-GRAPH LINK now works with the black serial cable on Windows XP and 2000, through the use of a service.

Also, the TI-73 Explorer now lives. It's just a rename of the TI-73, but remember, more letters make it better!

Wow! Is the 73 Explorer a joke? It's definetely a hilarious ploy to sell more TI-73's. I personally feel there is very little reason for the TI-73, except for possibly the graphing technology, grades 4-7 should have to learn math on their own, without <i>any</i> calculator except maybe a 4-function.

Geez, this marketing scheme is even funnier than the TI-83 Plus Silver Edition!

Hmmm, aiming (or addicting...) graphing calculators to younger and younger kids, so when they're older, they won't know how to do math, and be forced to buy an expensive TI calculator, because thats what the know how to use. Is it any coincidence that the 73's equation solver is more advanced than it's big brother's, the 83(+)? Make them lazy with math as a 4th grader, and they'll never want to do math by hand again.

Not to mention making them think that graphing calculators are only for games ...

I thought TI was against that? You know, with that 8K/24K limit on ASM games and all... <grr>

>>I thought TI was against that?
Especially with an entire section on their website devoted to games ...
Actually, I think that the limit might just have to do with them being to lazy to add in a few extra lines of code so there wouldn't be a limit.

wouldn't they just change the value to 64k, the execution limit of a 16-bit proc? Anyway, if teachers, parents and the gov't want the young generations to be competent in math they should teach them without any calculators at all, or at least control them more.

If students aren't competent in math, they won't understand how to use the calculator to solve their equations when they get farther on. You do have to do SOME work by yourself. Besides, they're going to have to start learning formulas and stuff, and if you're not competent in math, you won't be able to solve a simple question like "The radius of a sphere is 5, what is the volume?" because they have to type in 4/3*pi*5^3 (or whatever the equation is, lol) and they wouldn't know to do that, otherwise. Also, you can't blame a student for typing something like that into their calc without doing it by hand... multiplying by pi with pencil & paper isn't fun.

It's been a few a months, so I'm rusty. I have to re-memorize the first 100 digits for PI DAY! (It's coming up, you guys!)

Yeah, the transparent effect looked good. Gray is good, black is good, blue is not. :) They should come out with a K-3rd grade calc that's pink; to advertise for an even YOUNGER age ;)

To The Archivers:

I noticed several errors in the uploads from today:

-fileinfo/267/26708.html should be in the 83 folder, not the 82.
-fileinfo/267/26724.html should be in the 83 folder, not the 83+.
-I did not want files/fileinfo/267/26718.html and files/fileinfo/267/26717.html released.

Thanks!

Fixed.

To avoid files being put into the wrong folders in the future, make sure you upload them to the right folder, because that process is automatic, we don't touch the folder it goes into.

As far as the files you didn't want uploaded, to prevent this in the future I would suggest not uploading them, just a suggestion of course. You decide. I can't remove them unless you have a good reason. E-mail me if you have one.
