We're hiring again
Posted by Magnus on 3 February 2003, 22:17 GMT

Check border color. Not red, right? Thus, not fake news.

With Michael fairly settled in as news editor, it's time to hire another file archiver. The position of file archiver does not really need an introduction. They handle the files in our archives - adding, updating, moving, screenshotting, anything.

Again, the main thing required here is time. At the moment, there are over a thousand files in pending. That certainly is not the normal situation, though. On a regular day, we get in average 12-13 files. On a busy day, we get 50.

Experience with multiple calculators is a big advantage - we try not to put a preference on any calculator model or platform. Owning a lot of calculators is not required, though - just having some general experience. And just like last time - we're looking for a long term commitment, as well as a high availability. You all know what our users think when there are weeks without updates.

If you're interested, contact us at newstaff@ticalc.org. Please include the following information:

 • Full name
 • Email address
 • If you have MSN or AIM or similar as means for us to contact you
 • Age
 • Current level of education (finished or unfinished)
 • Where you live (town/state/country)
 • Approximate amount of time you think you can put into this per week
 • Which calculators you have experience with or access to
 • A quick motivation on why we should pick you

Also, from experience of last time: This is not a paid job.

Due to the huge interest in this, we have shortened the time for applications. We will now accept applications up to and including Feb 9th.

Congratulations TICalc.org! Finally maybe now the archives will finally be updated. Good luck to anyone applying for the position.

Are you gonna apply no_one_? I think they would actually take you seriously, as you are always on.
I might apply, but then again there is still calc.org... what to do, what to do...

What I have to say aligns direcly with the comment that was just deleted by Magnus ;) So, I'll change my message into a question.

What if we don't have all of the calcs needed for testing? Do all of them need to be tested? Do you NEED an AIM? There's a lot of other stuff. I'll think about it... I don't know if I'd apply or not, though.

No, you do not need all the calcs. Testing is what we want to do, but we cannot always do it.

No, you certainly don't need AIM. There are a lot of people on our staff who don't have it. It's just a matter of convenience in some cases.

Yeah, I wondered about the testing. Testing 50 programs a day would get tedious, I imagine.

Last day for applications!

Anyways... you don't need to do the testing, there's a guy working for ticalc.org (I forget his name) that does nothing but testing. He has all the linkable calculators.

Think I speak for everyone when I say screw hiring A file archiever. Hire about 3 or 4 that way they will not have to worry about being too busy.

I agree. Why not have a staff of archivers which volunteer whenever they can that compliments the file archivers on the staff?

Hey first post-i've never got that before.
I would apply, but I don't have enough time. With work and school and all I wouldn't be able to do it.

It's a good thing ticalc.org is working to get the archives moving. If they didn't, I'd be dead X(

>>> "Why?"

What I meant by that is, there's probably plenty of other people who view this site 4-5 times a day... or maybe not. :)

Yor are not the only person on 4-5 times a day, I get on every chance I get. You know, to check the news, to read the messages, to see if the archives are updated (which they have not been in a couple of days). Lots of time my visits total more than 6. This site is great.
