ticalc.org Pending Files Reaches 1,000
Posted by Michael on 1 February 2003, 19:58 GMT

This morning ticalc.org's pending file queue reached 1,002 files, attaining an entirely new level of bloat.

Users visiting the File Upload Form were stunned with the news. From the inside of his Idaho retreat, TI-81 fanatic Brent Medelsvensson was seen wearing a tin-foil hat and shouting, "It's a conspiracy! They've been planning this ever since the pending load was 'heavy'!" After locking himself in his parents' bedroom, he could not be reached for further comment.

ticalc.org news editor Michael Vincent commented, "I have no knowledge of the whereabouts of the file archivers at this time." Off camera, he mumbled something about Pago Pago and grapefruit. Magnus Hagander, residing a short distance from the ticalc.org server, reported, "We've been told that the earthquakes are extending all the way into eastern Siberia."

Corresponding with this event, overworked monkeys on typewriters were seen to mysteriously print lists of ticalc.org staff members in no particular order.

Stay tuned to your Emergency Broadcast System for further details.

Same here, about two months ago, I uploaded a game into the pending queue, and about 3 weeks ago, I finished the first complete version... I think you guys should look into hiring about 5 new archivers.

I concur. I submitted TI-Visual BASIC v0.5 in Octoberish, and I have already added about five new functions and have produced v0.9! BTW, if you are interested either in this program or in joining my programming group (Darks Side Programming), e-mail me at darksideprogramming@yahoo.com

How about we prioritize the queue:

Drop all basic progs entirely
keep all 83+ asm and flash programs
drop everything else, cause I don't have one

(:

How about only TI-83+ SE and TI-89 (and possibly PC applications)?

how about instead of ignoring the folks who use the ones your suggesting ignoring, they just upload them all, as soon as they get to them.

Hey micheal, instead of patrolling the boards so much, work on the archives. I must comend you though, as lately, you have found the deletion nirvana, and figured out what should and should not be deleted. Thank you.

Magnus, how about you hire one full time archiver, who does nothing but archive. Just a thought.

I've seen plenty of people on these boards who have offered to help with the archives. Hey ticalc.org staff, you should make a poll about the archives.

Would you be willing to help with the archives?
Yes!!!!!!!
No, not enough time
No, I don't care
Ticalc.org has archives?

Better yet, I think I should mail this to polls@ticalc.org or whatever the e-mail address is.

exactly, so if they use that idea, how will they choose which person to use?
it's kind of hard to sort through the many people, and if you do it based on how many times that person has gone to ticalc.org, well based on how many times I went yesterday, let's just say I would get the job

Same way they did with the news
Just have people send in a "resume". I'm sure a lot of the people here would be to lazy to make up a nice e-mail sayin why they should be archiver, so that should eliminate some of the difficulty. :)

Like I said before, everyone should upload their files to Calc.org instead.

If you reach a certain rank on your files, they get uploaded automatically. I got mine posted the same day I uploaded them.

Calc.org is like totally user-supported now.

True, but many times calc.org is not working properly. For instance, take a look at their program queue - EMPTY! And I can assure, it's far from empty. I'm about as mad with calc.org as I am with ticalc.org (not really, but anyways...).

I just wish people could see and use the programs that I've put so much time and effort into. It seems like the world does everything it can to prevent people from seeing my wonderful work. I've uploaded my files to like five different sites, all of which have ignored them (I uploaded them months ago, mind you).

Ahh... the world is a vampire

But have you tried EVERY SINGLE basic program out there? Chances are, you've missed some high-quality programs that are actually a lot of fun to play. Also, not all asm programs are useful either. And besides, I would think that BASIC programs are really easy to check, so they don't take much time at all.

There are still too many to check through with all the pointless ones to bother. Please, don't post your "Hello World" programs you took from some tutorial. There was one amazing minesweeper game in 83+ basic, it was a pain to find through all the other files though. I was just kidding about dropping all other calc's files. note the smiley.

Yea some people do really good basic programming. And i would really hate it if nobody got a chance to see my RPG in full blown action (86 basic - cbsentin.zip)
[ò.ó] - Try to find a Basic RPG with a map that size (110 screens of map) and be under 50k (map only consist of about 24k)!
