Zelda Demo Released for the 89
Posted by Michael on 26 January 2003, 19:25 GMT

Jason Ho has released a demo of his upcoming game, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Although not finished, the game looks promising, especially the smooth graphics. The author also plans to release the game's engine for others to create more Zelda games.

You gotta wonder if he will actually FINISH the demo. I don't know how many unfinished RPG's there are for the 68k, and comparing that with the number of finished ones is quite humbling. I hope he can beat the odds. Unfortunately, the odds for zelda-like games are even worse. Don't get me wrong. I really would like to see a finished product, but, until that happens, I am entitled to remain skeptical about it's completion. Jason, take this as a challenge to prove me wrong :)
Also, although this demo might have been out for a while, it was just recently added to the archives. So, it's new to ticalc.org. Interesting, that 1 program has been added, while the queue for the archives are HOW full? You know, this probably makes it not be a queue. Well, the best of luck to you, Jason.

As far as completing the entire Link's Awakening game, im not going to do that. Its just too big for me to do it alone. However, it will be a fully functionable game, not just a program to walk around and kill things.

Hopefully the source might encourage people to make other Zelda games as well (or create cool personal twists on Link's Awakening; id like to see that).

I keep hearing this demo has been out for a while. It was out for about 2 or 3 days on tinews.net and calcgames.org before it was posted here...so its not exactly an old program just yet :O)

Oh well, glad that someone is a good programmer on the ti, as it is getting hard to find any good programmers these days, I should know especially in my c++ class...

Great Program, I love Zelda, and the TI 89, plus other things, I have a little bit of a life...

Oh yeah, btw people... if any of you are the "destructive" type at your school, in the computer sense... be careful, lol I accidentally sent a winpopup message to the whole school. The administrators got it and they said they were going to talk to me, but they never did, so I don't think it matters. lol

Well, I guess he didn't specify a specific adress or somethin :) At our school, we get ISS if we send NetSend messages or go into MS-DOS (unless we're in a programming class, of course :p)

Yeah System admins at schools tend to be morons. Once, in high school, I sent a help request to the admin (on a Mac) and he told me it "crashed his internet". Apparently he was trying to check his e-mail and it got interrupted. I was banned from the computers for a week. NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH HIS INTERNET CONNECTION, OR HIS COMPUTER. He just had to click 'Check Mail' again, and it worked.

Someone should make a level editor for Zelda so those who don't have any programming experience can help to finish the game and make others. Does anyone have the programming knowlege to do this?
