PLC simulator/emulator released
Posted by Niklas on 28 May 2002, 17:26 GMT

Kuashio has released has released TI-PLC, a PLC simulator/emulator for the Ti-89. The program is based around ladder programming and has a variety of controls and tools to play with. It also supports controlling stuff through the link port, and therefore comes with schematics for building an interface (and a weird example for it that can be a great learning experience :) ).

More TI-89 stuff from the same author can be found on his homepage.

BTW, as you've probably seen over the last few days, we're working our way through the pending files and hope to be back to near-instantaneous (meaning within 24hrs) file adding soon.

I know this is kind of off subject but does anyone know of a good circuit simulator program for the TI89 without the price tag of some Flash Apps?

w00t! even though i don't know what that means.

Thanx, all i need to do now is learn how to express every circuit in the form that cymbulator expresses them.

I really hope you meant to say cymbulator and not simulator, because that's gotta be the worst spelling job I have *ever* seen.

DAMMIT PEOPLE! You're so concerned about getting your files in quickly and yet you submit EACH ONE separately? What did you think was going to happen? Kerm Martian (if that's your real name, I could care less) has been added to my list of 'People Who Annoy Me' by submitting his 'Unreal Tournament' game in EIGHT SEPARATE FILES. This is a poorly-veiled attempt to boost his author rankings simply by having more files. STOP IT. It's annoying to serious programs like myself.

I know I've said this before, but it needs to be said again. IF PEOPLE WANT THE ARCHIVES TO BE FAST, THEY SHOULD SUBMIT ALL THEIR RELATED FILES AT ONCE, RATHER THAN IN TINY LITTLE PACKETS OF FILES. End of rant.

Those are each of the seven levels, not the same program seven times....

btw, check out the program at the link ^^above^^

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in my interpretation the accusement was about breaking the program up into eight pieces without the real need to do so instead of submitting it in one single archive.

And it applies to everyone who keeps flooding the filearchives in this manner.

Continuing rant.
Exactly. I did not say you submitted it eight times. You quite simply could have put ALL those levels in ONE file ALONG WITH the game. Instead, the file archive guys now have to review EIGHT files instead of ONE. Congestion = slow archive posting = ANNOYANCE. Another thing that bothers me is that guy who has decided to put an interactive physics testbook. Sure, it's a good idea, much props for it. But there are TWO reasons he bugs me:
1. He OBVIOUSLY didn't write the textbook himself. Therefore, he's STEALING the text. Copyrights haven't been much of a problem in the past for things like Mario or Tetris (seeing how many of these games and their clones have been submitted), but TICalc.org has a strict policy about copyrighted BOOKS, which I'm sure the original book is. That's why they removed the Matrix and Monty Python scripts, and the Harry Potter e-Books.
2. HE UPLOADED IT IN ABOUT 40 OR 50 FILES. GAHT-DAMN.
End of rant.

For the TI-83+ version, I uploaded the levels in a >>single zip<<. Happy now!? ;)

The situation would probably improve if it wasn't for the "busiest author" statistics. And also my situation here, because I'm quite at the end of that list. :) It's really the download statistics that count.

TICALC STAFF! I HAVE AN IDEA!

You should implement a "quality" indicator: downloads divided by the number of uploaded files (and then you should count the contents of all the folders, even those currently excluded from the stats). This would probably discourage people from abusing your service to a certain extent.

(Or was such a thing implemented earlier? I'm quite new here so don't slap me if I repeated something. :)

maybe not quality, but average (same thing, different connotation), because some of the older authors have quality programs for calcs that no one uses anymore, and it wouldn't be fair to them... nice idea though, i'm sick of all this bullcrap uploading... don't upload something unless you'd be willing to download it and when you download it you actually have a "use" for it (if you were someone else)
GO TO MY SITE FOR QUALITY GAMES (not all mine)!!!

Of course, I didn't mean to invent the perfect means of classifying authors. Moreover, things like download frequency instead of average downloads would make even more sense, but it would be impossible to implement them (one reason: the original uploading date of any file later updated is always lost). The essence of the idea is to create a branch statistics that punishes notorious uploaders - just for the psychological effect :) - but still rewards people with programs whose high quality is justified by the steady great number of downloads.

It's much more flattering to be claimed to make the most quality programs rather than being the "busiest author"...

Question for ticalc.org archivers if you read this: do you look for games you wanna play, and if you like this game and/or author do you put it in the archives first? or are the files presented to you in order and you just choose which operating system you have the ability to test at the moment?
reason for question: i uploaded tankers 89 (great game by the way, go to my site) sunday, it got updated sunday, then i uploaded it again monday night, updated tuesday morning... (don't worry, both updates actually had a ton of new stuff in them)
go to my site, it's awesome.

As we have mentioned a few times, uploading files as updates (i.e. same folder, file name and account) means they will be processed faster. This helps us as well as the authors, since more updates leads to less space being used on the servers and less time being spent by the archivers. ;o)
