TI-Keyboard: Coming Soon?
Posted by Eric on 11 May 2002, 22:25 GMT

Several people have alerted me to an interesting new piece of hardware mentioned on Page 8 of the recent TI-Cares publication- a full-sized QWERTY keyboard that hooks up into your calculator's link port. A couple keyboard projects have been in the works lately by independent developers, but apparently TI has decided to make their own official version. More news to come? Hopefully...

But why? It's probably going to be useless, most people like carrying around their calculator and that's it. If you want to do some efficient typing, just use that box that sits on your desk with a LARGE, COMFORTABLE keyboard...trust me it's much faster. What's next a color screen? speakers? hahaha

That's interesting that you mentioned a color screen. They tooled around with that idea about 6 years ago. I had a math teacher back then who was selected to do like a beta test or something for TI, and it had a color display. 256, I think. I don't remember what model it was, either, but it was pretty sweet looking. Practicality is another issue...

COLOR SCREEN

The only way I know of bringing color to the screen is to press on it realy hard.
Depending on the way th OS handles requests for the LCD you may have to do one of the following:

Modify the OS ( Not Fun )to support new LCD interface routines, yet still remain compatible with the old calls.

Or:

Make the new screen hardware compatible with rest of the calculator, (OS old user programs) and directly
write to it's buffer in your programs.
