The Big Merge
Posted by Niklas on 9 April 2002, 15:20 GMT

No, ticalc.org is not merging with another site. What's new is that through some of Magnus' continuous improvements, the filearchives now support merging of files. This means that if an author has multiple versions of the same game or program in our archives, the old versions can be merged into the latest one while still keeping the precious download statistics.

To get this done for your files, simply contact filearchive@ticalc.org with the necessary information (author ID, file names and, if you can, file ID:s).

Update (Niklas): Note that we can't merge file contents, just file statistics. So to add stuff to an old file you still need to upload a complete replacement.

Just a side question, how long are the batteris on a TI-89 supposed to last?
I got a pair of duracell batteries along with my TI-89 a month ago and have installed and removed approx 4-5MB of flash software and used it pretty much. They depleted just now. Are they only supposed to last a month?

It just depends on how much you use it, and what you use it for. Games will take up energy. Doing derivatives won't.

Mine only lasted a month, too! (of course, I accidently left it on while playing SMQ for a weekend...)

Only the 9V ones...
Oh, today in Earth science, someone in my class told this girl that the rocks tasted like salt, so she licked it! My teacher made her wear a sign that said "loser" for the rest of class!

Funny ... hey ........ this rock here looks like it might be salty ... besides, there's something called rock salt, so this rock must be salty. Let's see ...
*licks rock*
Uhhh ... now I have to wear a 'loser' sign for the rest of class, and the rock wasn't even salty!!!!!!
X~<:***(
Wait!! I just remembered!!! Class is already over!!! YAY!! I DON'T NEED TO WEAR THE LOSER SIGH!!!!

Mmmm.... 9V battery! Zap! ow!
mmm... more! zap!!! oww!

I love licking 9V batteries, don't you?! In fact, I sometimes do it to see how much juice is left in them. There's no reason to do this with a 120 VAC to 6 VDC adapter, but it's still fun!

Well, I saw the link to this on /. and was somewhat confused at first--why would ticalc.org be merging?
Then I saw the text of the article. The headline is somewhat misleading.

BTW, the following programs should be automatically merged:

Physics Solver v2.0--Power and Work
Physics Solver v2.0--Velocity
Physics Solver v2.0--Vectors
Physics Solver v2.0--Electric and Magnetic Fields
Physics Solver v2.0--Electric Fields
Physics Solver v2.0--The Atom
Physics Solver v2.0--Thermal Energy
Physics Solver v2.0--Reflection and Refraction
Physics Solver v2.0--Quantum Theory
Physics Solver v2.0--Motion 2D
Physics Solver v2.0--Momentum
Physics Solver v2.0--Miscelaneous
Physics Solver v2.0--Mirrors and Lenses
Physics Solver v2.0--States of Matter
Physics Solver v2.0--Magnetic Fields
Physics Solver v2.0--Electromagnetic Induction

There is absolutely no point in having all of these separate.

I think there is a file that contains them all, but I'm not sure (can't check right now). Anyway, that kind of merging is for the author and not ticalc.org - we won't merge the contents of files, just removing old versions of programs and transferring their statistics to the latest version in our archives.

I see the update now, and I knew that you wouldn't merge them anyway. I just wanted to point out how the Busiest Authors list (see link) is somewhat stacked.

Also, somebody put Hobo Hunt/2/2/2 in the 83 plus ASM category when they are actually BASIC...

I vaguely remember from a microeconomics class that when companies merge, that oglopolies could form. I believe that oglopolies are kind of like a perfect competion but not quite.
That message is off the subject, but any way I agree that the title is kind of misleading

Actually, oligopolies are more like monopolies. They have few sellers, and many buyers.

Type to you later.

Sounds like merging calculator programs might be awesome; however, what is the process and what risks are invovled?
