Well, building on pre-existing code to write more advanced stuff is also exciting.

Ti-89 is THE calc. It saved my butt today on a math final. I just feel bad that I don't have to do all of the work solving 3-variable systems, so I went back and did it anyway. Plus, they might consider using the 89 cheating. (Alas, it was a waste, I would have gotten away with it anyway, the teacher didn't collect our notes. :P) (PS -> some of you guys should really spell check if you don't want to be insulted by sarcastic individuals)

Yes, I agree that the 89 is good, and I want one, but I just bought the 83+SE (about six months ago) and my parents won't let me get an 89 :(
(The main reason I want one is that it has WAY more TI-BASIC/ASM programming options! God I want one!)

I have an 89 with a version 2.05 AMS or whatever it is called and DoorsOS doesn't work. HELP!

Download HW2Patch (see link) and run it. You may want to archive everything first though (the first time I ran it it crashed, but, having nothing to lose, I ran it again and it worked).

I also have AMS 2,05 downloaded the HW2Patch and DoorsOS still didn't work, so I just use NOSTUB programs

If your having a problem with the DoorsOS II 0.98, then try version .099 thats what i use with my 2.05 hardware and it works fine.

I think we all know the super power of the 89 and that it would be the "best" calc in a world of no limitations, but there are limits in the world of school. Most schools say you must have a 83 type or 86 calc. The best one to get because of these limitations is the TI-83Plus SE; or if you don't have enough money for the SE then the 83Plus(normal) would be the next best. I came to this conclustion because I have a 83, 83P, 83PSE, 86, and 89. The one I use the most is the 83PSE because it is ok to use in class and on tests, it holds apps that make it more powerful like the 89, it holds the most app, and is the fastest z80 type calc. I can't use my 89 in any of my math classes, on any of my tests, or the ACT (but the 89 was nice to have on the SAT). So I hope you see that the 83PSE is the over all best calc to have when it has these great apps on.

Another APP? I never use APPs cuz they just waste calc memory. I'm sure that many more ppl will be happy to have this program plainly as an ASM file not Flash. It'd be also nice to have it on 83, cuz it now looks like every program is for 83+ and everyone forgot about folks who have 83's.

You also gotta keep in mind that some programs very closely associated with the operating system must be apps. Anything that uses a hook must be an app. Anything greater than 8k must be an app due to the hardware restrictions on sizes. Do not assume apps are a waste. Some make very good use of all 16k that is given to them. Some cannot be made any other way.
TI-83s (not plus) do no have hooks and cannot do some of the more interesting features we've seen from apps in the past year.

And there's memory to spare on the TI-83+SE.

I agree, but I've seen ASM programs using hooks on 83's and 82's. Also, even the simplest hello world app would take 16 kb. Pretty print is a great app nevertheless and a breakthrough for 83+.

It should fail your RAM (or ROM, whatever) if your batts aren't low (archive everything and it hides it, the only way to get it back is to clear your RAM)

Yes, you can JR backwards. Very useful for short loops. Notice that DJNZ would be pretty useless if you couldn't go backwards.

Anyway, there are much more interesting ways to crash or freeze your calc.

It'd be wonderful if tcp89 worked with black links...

...this is not related to the comments above but I wanted this standing close to the news item, as it seams many people have that question:
UP TO NOW PrettyPt DOESN'T make use of the equations you type in the app (so you don't need to run it;) ). Is makes sence in cooperation with symbolic in this way:
pretty(d("sin(x+2)/X","X")) (or you can import the answer using "get Ans" from within my app)
I released this early version of the app as I thought people would allready find a use for that (complex derivations can by quite hard to read without pretty print) or could start developing BASIC programs using the pretty( command.
I'm still working on PrettyPt so that it will be very similar to the ti89 homescreen: evaluate expressions by hitting enter, access last entries or perform Symbolic's d( or simp( function on it. The [F2] menu entry in my app is empty at the moment and will provide a way to insert frequently used tokens like abs(, round(, 3rd root, ...
