Earth-shattering Events at the ticalc.org Five Year Anniversary Party
Posted by Magnus on 21 June 2001, 18:11 GMT

Stockholm, June 21, 2001

The earth momentarily stopped spinning at 17:45:48 CEST June 21st, during the ticalc.org 5-year anniversary IRC party. In complete defiance of the laws of probability, Editor-in-chief Magnus Hagander actually updated his staff page picture, in honour of the anniversary.

7.36 seconds later, ticalc.org momentarily dropped off the internet, as our Chief Security Manager initiated a complete emergency shutdown.
- I just could not believe it, says Henrik. I was certain somebody managed to get past all my security checks - this file hasn't been update since... Well. It has never been updated. The alarms went off like crazy. I was sure it could only be one of two things - either lightning struck right on the server, or there was some kind of alien invasion.

After performing a pre-planned mutual authentication sequence to confirm that Magnus was indeed the one to do the update, and not under alien influence, the site was rapidly brought back online, to the collective gasp of the #ti community.
- This is totally unprecedented, reports Eric Sun, news editor at ticalc.org. Nobody ever sprung something like this on me without warning. I just can't believe it.

Dooms-day prophets report that the world did not quite come to and end, though it was a close call.
- Please stay calm, said Magnus. This picture is still almost a year old. There are limits to what can be done when you work against probability. I will definitely update it again in another 5 years.

Isaac Salpeter, owner of the ticalc.org name and one of the founders, was for once available for comment. He chose not to comment on any of the issues.

Apart from this, reports say the party was completed without any major riots.

Update (Henrik): Log is now available.

You know, in physical theory, at EXACTLY 17:45:48 CEST June 21st (meaning no passage of time), the earth would be stopped. You would have to travel faster than the speed of light to actually move if there is no passage of time. :)

Actually at EXACTLY 17:45:48 CEST June 21st, it could have happened somewhere between 17:45:48.001 and 17:45:48.999. Thats a lot of difference relative to some things. Pardon my grammar if its not perfect because english is my 3rd language, but you can still understand what I'm saying.

Actually, at EXACTLY 17:45:48 CEST June 21st it has to be EXACTLY 17:45:48,000000 and so on, meaning, no period of time, but a certain point of time, in which Earth can not possibly have moved.
