New TI-83 Plus SDK Released
Posted by Henrik on 20 June 2001, 21:13 GMT

Captain's log, stardate 2001062.0. My crew has abandoned me and forced me to do the news bulletins myself. Well, not really, everyone else is busy, so I am filling in for the news staff.

Andy Hochhaus writes in and reports that the new free version of the TI-83 Plus SDK contains a freeware private key to digitally sign Flash Applications for use on any TI-83 Plus or TI-83 Plus SE. Andy also mentions that they have added a method of creating systems menus.

Computer, initiate download.

Update (Henrik): Dan Englender gave a pointer to a press release.

It is very good that they did the freeware sig thing... now maybe they could do that for us poor 89 users who want to create flash apps that don't cost money.
Hopefully TI is turning around from a developers worst nightmare to well... something better than that ;)
p.s.
Those of you who had signatures before this could er um write a program for money, or shareware... Wonder what that market is like?

If you email TI they might give you a partial refund...

On the other hand, you can still make commercial apps if that interests you. But you're right, it does seem unfair to not inform people who purchased the SDK about this possibility. I know that I never thought TI would do something like this. Too bad it's just the 83+ version. A 68k version would be nice (with appropriate refunds for unused signings).

I'm not really sure. I don't have an 83+, so I haven't really worked with the SDK. I did download it once, and it seemed to be mostly command line based (unlike the 68k version that is more of an IDE). Try reading some of the included text files for help.

1) You unpack + install the debugger to a directory
we shall call %ti83plusdir%.
2) You go to directory %ti83plusdir%\Utils and copy
your .hex file there.
3) You type "appsign 0104.key [yourfile].hex"
4) Miraculously, your app gets signed

No. The previous news item (the one announcing the conclusion of the Original Five Year Mission) was also posted by Henrik (coincidentally the first Star Trek-themed news item that I can recall, and certainly the first one since NickD stepped down as news editor 10 months ago.

Could somebody post thq App-signing tool on his website (or Ticalc.org), I've got problems locating it (doesn't seem to be there on the European-site), and since it is free, what should they have against it?

HOW TO: Sign an APP
supraman

The signing utility is installed with the simulator/debugger. To sign an app, follow these steps:
1. Copy the 0104.key file into the folder where your hex file is.
2. Go to DOS and then go to the folder where your hex file is.
3. Type appsign 0104.key filename.hex

(filename is whatever you named your hex file)

Hope this helps
