New TI Sweepstakes
Posted by Eric on 10 May 2001, 07:36 GMT

Continuing its recent unprecedented trend of offering prizes galore, TI has announced a new "Wanna Win a Car?" Sweepstakes. This seems to be the latest in TI's efforts to publicize their new website (There, we linked to it. That should be enough publicizing :). Anyway, if their intentions aren't clear enough, the potential prizes should be: they've got camcorders, backpacks, walkmans, T-shirts...and oh yeah, a 2001 Ford Mustang. Check it out if you're interested.

I wonder where TI is getting the money for this contest... As of now, their stock is down $1.55 to $37.55.

Oops. I think I was wrong... link above. They have 89s and 83+SEs- not that I would want an 83+SE, of course.

You were right the first time - the 83+ SE and 89 aren't prizes, TI just stuck a product link on the sweepstakes information page. The prize pages and rules page only talk about the mustang, camera, backpack, walkman, and t-shirts. No calcs for you! I've had an 89 for 2 years and the magic has yet to fade in our relationship :)

That stinks. I've got an 86, which is good enough, but the 89 has <drool>3d graphing, flash, algebra & calculus</drool>... I've got to get one soon... Anyone have an extra one lying around? :)

Yeah, 89's are great. Just being able to scroll through the last 100 operations (if you crank it all the way up) is enough to warrant one. THen there is unit conversion, custom menus/submenus, and the Pretty Print. Ahhh . . .

yes... finally people post good stuff about 89's. Maybe I'm just never on at the right times, but it seems like people are always crushing 89's, saying 92+ is better, talking crap, etc. Good to see some 89 support.

92+'s are great calculators, but the 89 which is equally superior is in a convenient handheld form. The 92+ is way to big and obstructive, not worth it in my opinion.

Not Even. This contest does not require you send in anything. Maybe the TI website people were drinking a bit when the Mustang was written up as a prize?

It's for the best. The stearing wheel would be on the wrong side for you anyway. :-)

Eww... more wasted bandwidth for a 'new' worse site.
pantherace13  Account Info

I am just annoyed, because their 'new' site uses javascript EVERYWHERE, which tends to crash or not work in browsers, even netscape (who wrote JS). It also takes up more bandwidth, and is annoying. A little javascript is fine, but using it EVERYWHERE increases the likely hood that it will crash the browser. This doesn't even take into acount the wasteful FLASH sh^Htuff they have.

Sorry, just annoyed at their new site, because the old one was better. (apparently this is comany wide, and tech docs have disappeared off the web, and are only available to those who pay.)

Read my above post. No 83X's or 89's.

The fun pack is a backpack, cd-wallet, t-shirt and a few other things along those lines. They should give away some calcs though, they are mega fun!

I quote from the guidelines, "Messages containing 'first comment' boasts, requests for game ports, or criticisms of 'newsworthiness'will generally be deleted."

Please stop. Nobody cares what comment you get. There was a news article by nickd about such things. This is really annoying, and I'm sure most people agree with me.

I agree - the first post things are annoying.... if anyone really cares, they can look at the timestamp on the messages.

I only said "First reply to the first post" to satirize all the Xth-post comments, so don't think I'm a hypocrite :)

I have a little question
depleateduranium  Account Info

is their any program out their, or could there be that allows you to mask var's to be invisible even after restart and eraser of ram,(doors can do this but not thru a ram reset, were talking an 89 people; we dont loose programs from no stinking ram reset)

I've been intending to make a program that overides the memory menu and if a reset option is chosen then the appropriate items are hidden until the user turns the calc off and turns it on again while holding down the appropriate keys.

But helping people cheat is not high on my priority list.

Its like the PIXSpander hooked up to a bettery and RadioLinc under a pile of crap in someones locker. They got the calc wiped, and then initiated the transfer off the PIXSpander via the linc. Pretty cheap, and expensive. Plus it probably took forever.Lucky my school could care less if I used progs to help on a test. THey didn't even question when we took the PSATs!

Beta

A little off topic, but I have to vent:

<vent=enraged>
Let the maker of the RadioLinc burn in hell! He carged insane prices for a small circuit board, gave horrendous instructions, and took the links off his site because he had everybody complaining. I just quit trying to put this $80 f*cking thing together. He offered no refund for his fraudulant piece of sh*t. I swear, if I ever see him, I'll tear his f*cking ass to shreads!!!

Anybody else get tricked by this bastard?
</vent>

I think I broke a couple of rules--sorry about that, ticalc.org!
