eXor Releases Pang v1.0
Posted by Nick on 23 April 2000, 03:30 GMT

Pang v1.0eXor has put out the initial release of quite the addictive piece of programming: Pang v1.0 for the TI-89. Thanks to Tim Buckingham for doing the port to English. This game features bouncing balls that you have to break apart before they crush you. It gets much more complex as the balls get smaller; you have to dodge an increasing amount, and it makes the game very fast-paced. Good work on both sides of the pond.

Update (Nick): Tim has created a port of Pang to the TI-92 Plus. It's untested, so it might crash. Load this on at your own risk. You can download it here.

Great... What we need, yet another great game for the TI-89/92/92+! Why cant the 83/83+ have any of these awesome games???

1) TI83/83+ has a Zilog Z80
2) TI89/92/92+ has a Motorola 68000(!!!)
That means
1) TI83/83+ has a processor that has only x transistors
2) TI89/92/92+ has a processor with 68000 transistors(!!!)

Please tell me what’s the x value. (I know is much less than you can imagine)

The power. The first microprocessor (intel 4004) has 2300 transistors. Actually, Pentium has more that 1 million or more. Anyway I think Pang could run in a Z80.Sega Master System, Nes and Game boy has a Z80. 8 bit videogames. When Sega wanted to create a 16bit machine, they though in Motorola 68000 of course, with big success.

where it says
"more that 1 million or more"
it should say
"more than 1 million"
I'm just a little fast...

read: Pentium III

Even my Annihilator Pro Video card has 22 million transistors in the GPU.

But were talking about the m68k not the p6, so until TI comes out with a ti-89 featuring, say, a mobile Pentium III @550mhz, I guess ill settle for the humble m68k @10mhz...

I believe you're wrong. I don't know about the Sega Master System but, the NES used a 6502 but, a z80 to control the sound chip. The GameBoy uses a modified z80, not quite the same thing. The Sega Genesis, on the other hand, used a Motorola 68000 (I don't know if/how it was modified).

You're right about the Nes. A modified z80 is still a z80, maybe improved(but just a little). The same for the 68k

For the ignorant morons who access this site, here's a post I added to the Phoenix v5.0 article a few days ago:

The next time who ever goes so close to MENTION a first comment on this board will get their comment, along with all replies, mercilessly deleted.

I'm sick and tired of this crap. I want to come home and not see YOUR comment board flooded with pointless BS that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the topic, other than a "congratulations" or a "wow i like this HEY FIRST COMMENT!!!111"

NO.

If you want to post BS that gives you the false sense of acceptance, go to Slashdot or another TI site. Don't do it here.

I refuse to tolerate this any further.

This conversation ends now.

Please stop your incredibly insolent behavior. Nobody likes it.
I just deleted four of the five comments on this board for a reason, and I could keep it up all night if I have to.

Thank you for your cooperation in advance.

that's good, just wanted to post this as first comment, because we want to help :

" The only solution to sabotage “ First Comment ” people is to be the first one to post a comment. Join this brigade anti-first comment NOW (reply).
Be sure:
1) If you get first comment don’t say “first comment” (obviously)
2) If you are navigating in the internet, please open a window of your favourite browser, then ticalc.org, waiting for news.
(This will need a constant refreshing) Actually, between 20:00 and 23:00 GMT
3) insulting is not the way we have to combat them. Be tolerant.
4) Don’t get so annoyed by first comments, please be patient. They will disappear if we fight together.
5) If we receive just 1 insult from a First Comment guy, please, feel free to email him or reply everything you want.

Receiving help from Ticalc would be good, like emailing us when would they post the next new, but it’s not a good idea.
Just keep thinking.

Thanks."

this is in the past. Now, we got the Nick Disabato word and we will follow it. That's good.

No, the best way to thwart the "First Comment" people is to take things into your own hands and not post "first comment" posts in the first place.

Beating people to the punch will NOT result in the first comments going away, which is the optimal - nay, ONLY - solution.

Also, it'll flood the board with even more frantic, pointless posts as people try to BEAT people to first comment to keep OTHERS from getting first comment.

This is not a competitive thing. Please realize that the comment board is for intelligent discussion, *not* competition for the first post. That's degenerate and pointless.

And you WILL get help from us in the form of deleting first comment posts. We aren't going to idly sit back and be inactive in affairs on the comment board. Chances are that I'll still be monitoring the comment boards well after I've stopped working here.

And that's a good thing :-)

Well I would like to say that I have never put "first comment" in a post. Although I did get 3 out of four consequetive first commments ( I was rather proud of that j/k =-) ) - Anyways it is pointless, dumb, and and ego booster that shouldn't be one. The only thing that first comment says about you is
a.) You are lucky.
b.) You have no life.
That's about it.

Nick I don't understand why you have to be so anal about first comment whacks. It takes me far less time to take one click past their bs post than it took me to scroll through your on and on garbage you keep instigating on the boards. Please stop these off-topic discussions about first-comment posters now and do something about it that does not cause more problems than it solves.

Thanx

I was one of those idiots to say "First Comment!!!" the other day. I'm new around here and missed that rule. I humbly seek forgivness of all those that post relavent comments except for the @$$ that made fun of all of us 'first commenters', especially our resident deity Nick aka BlueCalx. Off topic I know, but what does your nickname "BlueCalx" refer to exactly?
