New Feature: File Upload Form
Posted by Nick on 2 April 2000, 23:47 GMT

We need developers that have new programs to send to us to test our new file upload form. THIS FORM IS CURRENTLY IN BETA. We don't know what it'll do, but from what we've tested on it, it should work fine. This form will upload and claim your file all in one step, and you won't have to worry about a file size mismatch. Once again, *THIS IS IN BETA.* We don't know whether or not this will work for everyone, but here it is.
This is not a finalized version, but if you enjoy taking a risk, upload the program using the form and, if it turns out the program got added to our archives, please email Andy Selle telling him that it worked. If you get an error message that seems abnormal to you, email him with a lengthy explanation of the problem. Enjoy.

Technically speaking, I believe that the comment you just made was the sixth comment, which isn't all that imperssive, really.

NINTH COMMENT! woohoo! ;-)

btw, why does changing your email address in your preferences cause a new, strange password to be generated?

did you steal your nickname from the guy who made dying eyes on the 82 and is also in that crazy cool goth band who sings "wave after wave" ?

You mean Alex "Kurai" Highsmith? No, I did not, Kouri is actually my real first name.
BTW, Wave After Wave is the name of his band, isn't it? Dunno if they have a song called that too.

I have no idea if that's the name of his band or the song. I have an mp3 that says "wave after wave.mp3" so i wasn't sure ....

anyway, the song kicks ass and on a side note, i'm seeing the cure next month. yay!

Couldn't this have come two days ago! I just sent 6-7 programs using the old claim form.

BTW, how long is it supposed to take before the program goes online?

Well, It's *supposed* to take only about a day. However, I have been quite busy the past few days (school project, visiting grandfather, etc.) There has also been an influx of new programs submitted to the archives as a result of the new file upload system. If you uploaded files recently, they should be up on the system by tomorrow night. After tomorrow, expect additions to be faster.

This means crappy programs will be released without being looked at.

Nothing changes in the handling of the file. Instead of "ftp+claim form" you do "upload form".
The files are still only put in a queue, not put directly onto the site.
The advantage of this change being that it is a one-step process to upload it, instead of the old two-step process. Plus the fact that you no longer need an ftp client (ok, so it's included in every OS I know of today, but it's not the nifty-spiffy-GUI-version that everbody seems to like).
