DoorsOS v0.95: Support For Everything!
Posted by Nick on 6 March 2000, 00:19 GMT

IT'S TOO STINKIN' HOT OUT!
With that in mind, Xavier Vassor and Cedric Couffignal, the Doors Team, have released v0.95 of their toxically popular DoorsOS. This should work on all Hardware v2.00 calculators. A special version of graphlib now exists, and this version of Doors encompasses a lot of happy new bug fixes. As usual, those crazy 68000 ASM programmers can find the developer version here.
Congrats to Zeljko Juric, Julien Muchembled and the Doors Team for getting all this stuff to work on all the versions of the TI-89 (and possibly the TI-92 Plus?) currently out. We owe you a big one.

Update (Nick): I'm just forgetful today. The source on this one was Ti.Fr. Oops! :)

YEAH finally first comment (that is if my cache is up-to-date)! Anyway... doors is cool... but i think they should add some of uos's new features, then we'd have an AWESOME shell. also, has anyone noticed that the english version of ziplib is actually in french?

I would like to know if they are ever going to make a converter so that all the ti-92plus games well work on the ti-92plus asm v2.03 or make doors able to run games made for version 1.05 and above.

I got excited seeing this new doorsOS out but I guess I'll just have to wait longer to get the ASM fully working...I could barely get this program to run for five minutes before my 89 locked up. Also, tetris still does not work, nor does smq, along with many others. Better luck next time, doors.

i agree with the unstable part... but the games have to be for AMS 2.03 if you have a 2.03 calc. you still can't run old games like SMA if you have AMS 2.03. what he means is that all ams 2.03 games work for hw 2 and ams 2.03, which wasn't compatible since about a week ago.

Ummmm....
I don't understand one thing. That would be: Everything has to be ported from say 1.05 to 2.03 before they will work.... Correct?

For the most part, no. For 99% of all programs, you just need to re-assemble the program with a newer version of doors.

There are a few minor exceptions - primarily anything grayscale that doesn't use the standard gray4lib/graphlib routines (which I modified for HW2), which needs to have those routines rewritten and two separate versions (one for HW1, one for HW2). Then again, if a program is written for Doors then there's no reason NOT to use the standard library routines. Otherwise you'll have to try to read through my confusing code mess or write your own fonts and text drawing routines.

To make a long story short - 99.9% of the programs need only a very minor bit of maintenence to run on any calc with the new doors

Now if it's that easy, why don't programmers just port their code for AMS 2.03? Since it's more reasonable to upgrade the OS than to downgrade it, sometime people should start realizing that quite a few users are slowly getting annoyed.

um, heh. i was wondering if there is a way to downgrade back to ams 1.05... the only reason i upgraded was to get more ram for games, but that space isn't needed now that o found out i can't play the games i wanted the space for.. so if anyone knows how to downgrade, please tell me. thanks.

ok umm i dont really see what the big deal is with the HW2 crack and DoorsOS i could run Tetris, Duckhunt, Zelda, Bommerboy, Phoenix, and all the other "asm 2.03 compatible programs. Thats all i tried smq didnt work and sf2 didnt work...but now with v0.95 i cant run tetris, zelda, bolderdash, bommerboy, basically anything but Phoenix(or at least that ive tried) granted there is no greyscale with v0.93 but at least the games play oh yeah and why the hell does dstar freeze on the 3rd level?????? just curious

I actually got Space Monkey Quest (1.1.0) to work under Doors 0.95, granted the outlines of menus do not show up when using the greyscale but it seems to work very well, however SMQ 1.0.3 dosen't seem to work at all.

well space monkey quest does have that problem with doors... but since i decided that uos was better, i switched to that and realized that it DOESN'T have those problems!

I loaded Doors v.95 on my 89 with AMS 1.05, and I noticed that most of explorer's functions are in French. Also, opened menus are way too big and wrap across the screen as if they didn't get optimized for the 89. Has anyone else noticed this?

Is it just me or is this release of DoorsOS just breaking every program? Sure the HW 2 compatibilty is nice, but TEOS and Universal OS had that without breaking all the programs, oh well!
