December 1999 POTM Vote
Posted by Nick on 24 January 2000, 02:44 GMT

Due to the Millenium awards occupying our time for a little while, we've had to delay this a bit. At any rate, you can now vote on the December 1999 Program of the Month. Next month's POTM voting will occur on schedule, as usual. We apologize for this month's delay.

Update (Nick): You know, a funny thing happened the other day. When we were posting the POTM voting page, we loaded up the wrong month of featured programs. This - logically enough - messed up voting a bit. So, we apologize, but if you voted before you have to vote again. Voting will close on January 30 (1 week after when I post this). This time, everything really should be fixed. If it's not, I expect everyone who visits this site to collectively plot my ghastly demise.
The ghastlier, the better. :-)

They should put up news more often. They should post EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING. who cares if it's kinda off topic, as long as it relates to calculators directly in SOME way...

BREAKING NEWS:

BlueCalx coughs slightly at 6:42 AM, goes back to sleep
------
(AP) CHICAGO, IL -- At approximately 6:42 AM CDT, Nick "BlueCalx" Disabato coughed slightly and then went back to sleep.
Apparently, BlueCalx had been suffering from a severe attack of bronchitis two months prior to the cough. Authorities are investigating the exact source of the cough and whether or not it is "BlueCalx Bronchitis"-related.
Sheriff Mike Knapp of the Chicago Police Department reported that BlueCalx is still "alive and well" and they will "apprehend and bring to justice" the "microbes" that were responsible for the "travesty to society."
The whereabouts of the microbes in question are still unknown.
After being transported to Cook County Hospital for further investigation, BlueCalx's condition was upgraded from critical to stable, and he is expected to be released by the end of the week, in time for his birthday next Tuesday.
Whether or not BlueCalx will cough again is still unknown as of press time.

Who is BlueCalx? does he program?
Or is he just a tetrinet player?

I was serious, we need more news.

You didn't get it did you?
1. BlueCalx is Nick's nickname-type thingy.
2. His point was that there isn't actually that much news, and if they were to do as you said, eventually half of the articles would look like that.

Well write sometyhing then :P You haven't produced anything for at least two days (or at least added anything to the archives that I can find)...

I'm writing something really cool for the ti86. You could get a vague hint as to what it is at ACZ until it vanished off the face of the planet...

Ah, that explains it... Maybe you should switch to Unix (if you're not using it already). Oh, does that mean that the email address you used in that post won't work :?

Uh oh ... dont start david on that.. We had quite a heated debate on the list about switching from NT to a linux server .. david is pro NT in the acz server's case..

also, acz.org emails will work since that is handled by a different server..

Sorry - I repent. NT still sux though... NT: No Thanks.

PLEASE DON't EXPECT ANYTHING ON ti83(+) EMULATION FOR A FEW MONTHS!!! I'M WRITING SOMETHING ELSE AT THE MINUTE. I won't plug it just yet, other than to say it will be really cool *g*

Oh, there's this wierdo I know who reckons an entire speech synthesis program (reads out a string) should be possible for the ti86 in under 10Kb. She's even written a bit of code that (sort of) does (some of) it. Should I put her out of her misery and tell her she's wasting her time? Does anyone believe her?

For what we use, NT is much better than a Linux/Unix solution. Everything is written in ASP and ColdFusion, and we already have that software. We'd have to either rewrite the site entirely, or pay lots and lots of cash to buy versions of ASP and ColdFusion for Linux. No thanks. Besides, CF is the fastest web development language, period. If I'm doing stuff in my free time, I'm going to do it as quickly as possible :)

Also, there is no full text indexing and search engine for Linux. Microsoft Index Server comes for free with NT. I don't really feel like writing a whole search engine myself when I already have one for free.

Satisfied? :)

lol--I was in a similar, if not worse, condition at around the same time this morning. I can't tell if I have a cold or the flu, but my head was incredibly congested, and I had to stay home. My body picked a bad time to be sick, considering today is the start of the new semester, and I have all new classes at my H.S.

Wow, my computer screen is really dirty. I should clean it. Now where did I put that alcohol/water solution?...

Yeah, that's where "signitures" would come in handy... (check out www.likeastory.com for examples of signitures being used)

P.S. Hey, Ciaran, were you the one who, in a previous post, said that you had developed a shell for the 86 that could emulate TI-83 programs, but didn't release it because you didn't want to bother coming up with an interface? If so, I thought up a fairly unique interface for a theoretical TI-86 shell some time in the past, and I would love to see it put to use in a real shell (considering I can't program asm yet). email me if you're interested. :-)

It was me - I was exaggerating (spelchekka kneadid?) slightly. I could run most ION programs on my ti86 but it would only work on ROM 1.4 and later (I think).

The author of BugOS has asked me a few questions about ti83 emulation, I reckon he'll include it in a later version.

As for the interface, I'm working on something at the minute but when I'm finished I'll give it a try :)

I think they have to do partially with the second-hand highs that I get when I walk into my sister's w33d-permeated bedroom.

Or maybe the hallucenogenic chemicals seep in through my bedroom's wall.. That drywall isn't a good insulator :-)

News about everything would distract from more important news that people are actually interested in hearing about. I mean, who wants to go to a site where the news is pointless to the topic?
