Mazi Bahadori Overclocks... TI-25?!
Posted by Nick on 7 January 2000, 02:28 GMT

Overclocked TI-25 ThumbnailWhen Jason Smith emailed me with this the other day, I considered posting it as fake news. But then I saw it was actually serious and I laughed very hard. 3D Wars has released a fantastic article regarding - and I am seriously not making this one up - the overclocking of a TI-25. According to the article, "I was [finally] able to find some answers. 't' before voltage change equaled .00002 seconds. 't' after voltage change equaled .0000199 seconds. Ladies and gentlemen, there you have it. A .0015 percent (0.0015%) increase in performance on the calculator!" Don't you love all these insignificant tweakings? :)

Even though this has nothing to do with graphing calculators, it's certainly worth a mention. MAD props to Mazi Bahadori for adding some happiness to the cruddy week I've been having.

Not to be a party pooper, but...this wouldn't work. *grin*
1. I doubt that battery is producing 16V at 22 amps.
2. I suspect the chip is clocked by a crystal, which won't change frequency in response to current. (If it's a capacitor clock circuit, it might.)
3. You got a 12V cooling fan to run off of 120V AC? I'm interested to hear how -that- worked. :-)

This article is a fun news thing that is interesting to the kind of people who would visit this site. Yes, it's silly, but anyone who's sitting there saying that they shouldn't post it and this is a graphing calculator site and blah blah blah should get a life more than the guy who took the time to do this project. I honestly don't see how someone could be such a hardcore calculator fannatic that they are offended by taking 15 seconds to look at a news article that not only has to do with calculating, it's also the same brand of calculator.

While, yes, this guy seems to be lacking a life... he has more of a life than people who are offended that this article was posted on a site about calculators. :P

AMEN BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!! Those of you that nitpick a site you don't have anything to do with running and come to on your own really shouldn't talk! The guy probably overclocked it out of boredom, it wouldn't take nearly as long as you guys think.

I agree!
I think it'd be boring just to have a site with *only* graphing calculator stuff. Sounds like a project I'd do out of complete bordom, once I figure out how to do that type of stuff. :)

Hey guys I agree overclocking the TI-25 is silly (to say the least) but, this article just shows how inventive (and mabey bored) Mazi was at the time. In any matter it never cease's to amaze me how just about anything can be done these day's. If I wasted your time then don't read the article in the first place. There is simply no new exciting TI news lately and the year is just started. I still can't believe Mazi overclocked and old relic TI-25.... lol :-)

Does that mean that it can now run Ultime 9 without skipping frames?

I heard a law was passed making it illegal to use radium in a pocket computational application.

Oh, crap! They keep screwing me over. First it was plutonium, then uranium, and now I can't even use radium? How am ever going to get my TI-35 to run Windows 98? Huh? It's just not fair.

The only question I have is, why did he connect a low voltage DC fan to AC power?

Waste of time. Get a life.

I thought it was funny...

Speaking of wastes of time, posting practically half an essay to try to gain some ground in a frivolous debate isn't exactly time effective. Things like this just aren't worthwhile to set off a Lincoln-Douglas debate about every g*d thing.

If you want a serious, hard-assed TI Calc. site, why don't you try making your own, and you might appriciate what ticalc.org has done for us.
