Tinux v0.8 - English Version by Clem Vasseur
Posted by Nick on 28 December 1999, 20:46 GMT

TinuxClem Vasseur has translated Tinux v0.8 to English. This is (now for some blindingly obvious logic) helpful to all of us who speak English! Tinux was created by Olivier Borowski. You can find the home page of Tinux here.

It's not really that big. I think it's reasonable for a shell.

Actually, I must agree with you. The shell is humungous. I only looked at the one file (Tinux, and not all the other Tinx- files) when I posted that message.

Yea cool, an english translation (french ain't that hard, and you don't really have to read it all). But my point is: does this have to be a featured program and even a NEWS-item?!? I mean it's just a translation...

Try going into config (CFG) and turning off smooth scrolling

nope...no good
i put it on a freshly resetted calc too i have no clue what could be wrong. I have rom version 1.6 if maybe theres a bug with that. the mouse constantly scrolls down and the screen flickers. When the mouse isnt scrolling down it doesnt usually respond to pressed keys either, and the mouse moves incredibly slow

That's strange. I have a 1.6 86 and it's working fine for me, well, at least under VTI. I haven't loaded it on my real 86 yet. But, I haven't had any problems with scrolling or the cursor. I find its movement smooth, controlled, and fast.

I do agree that this is quite large for a shell, but the enhancements over some of the other shells are nice. But, I think it should have some sort of password protection/memory protection built-in too like Rascall does, which is what I like using.

BTW, how do you use another background pic? Is it just an 86 image file?

i'm not having trouble with the cursor, but when i tried to create a new folder, the shell corrupted itself and i had to resend it to my calc.

It sounds to me like the author disabled interrupts or installed a custom one and forgot to reset the keyboard port. Some code like this might help:

ld a,$ff
out (1),a

Well I think That Tinux is way too big and there is no point in downloading it if there is no emulation or anything right?

And copying files causes problems to games!
