Lua Programming Environment on the TI-Nspire Found
Posted by Astrid on 17 April 2011, 19:36 GMT

In a development that could turn out to be very interesting in the near future, Lua has been discovered on the TI-Nspire OS version 3.0. The Hackspire wiki already has the beginnings of an API reference. Go forth and create cool stuff!

Update (Travis): A Lua section in the Nspire file archives has now been added.

How about an Axe section now.

I don't think there will be one, because Axe is compiled to machine code like assembly.

If Ticalc.org adds an Axe section, then they will have to add TI-89/92+/v200 and TI-Nspire C sections and split the already uploaded 68K C files from the ASM directories.

My complaint is that they are shown on the front page like ASM files and they really arent. People looking for actual assembly help are gonna get confused.

I don't know how many times I have clicked on a new "Assembly" file only to find out that it is an Axe program with no Assembly to be found. Axe should be considered separate just like BBC is.

Now that there is something useful for programming on the Nspire, Could somebody make an intro to Lua programming or at least a reference of some kind (like a full command index)? I think it make it easier for everybody who wants to learn Nspire Lua to learn it and use it. I have tried some of the functions and commands on the Hackspire API and it just doesn't work very well for me. (I am used to Ti 84 Basic)

Additionally, could a Lua programming environment be made on the calculator? I really only program at school and when I am away from the computer and I am sure there are several people who are the same way.

The nqueen problem runs at about 2.3 s using ti-basic on a nspire CAS, OS3.0. A program using LUA that I wrote run at about 0.145 s, or about 18 times faster.
