New Year's Resolutions From Staff Members
Posted by Astrid on 2 January 2011, 01:01 GMT

With a new year comes one of my favorite traditions, resolutions. Here's how ticalc.org staff promise to make 2011 a year to remember:

  • Nikky – Beginning early February, all comments on the site will be moderated by a crack team of Slashdot users.
  • Travis – Maybe I'll organize the quadratic solvers into subsubcategories.
  • Astrid – One word. Corporate partnerships. I've got a major cross-branding deal in the works with a major Japanese corporation, and I promise to not let that go the same direction as the ticalc.org CD.
  • Jason – What? I'm staff?
  • Michael – I resolve to make a Facebook plugin for ticalc.org, so you can instantly show your Facebook friends about your new quadratic solver program!
  • Magnus – I'll finally do the migration to MySQL that I've been planning for the past three years. The speed difference will be amazing!

No, a "crack team". That is, a team of highly-skilled, trained, and experienced individuals.

I selflessly volunteer myself to moderate nikky's comments. Not that I think them actually in need of moderation of course. :P

I went to the 83plus/basic/math/quadratic folder to see if there actually would be logical categories, and though I didn't see any obvious divisions, I'm amused by how 50%+ of the authors claim theirs is the best solver: "Truly the ultimate quadratic formula solving program." "[redacted] is one of the best quadratic equation solvers in existance." "This program is the best quadratic equation solver writen in BASIC for the TI-83+." "The most extensive quadratic formula program to date." "This is an *Excellent* Quadratic Equation program. It does WAY more[...]" "This is an ultimate quadratic program." "Not your ordinary Quadratic Solver." :)

Well, that's a category right there- "Claiming to be the best Quadratic Solver"

Well, although this is fake news, I must say that some of these would be great. Magnus' resolution is definitely worth going through with.

I agree, we all love it when Oracle controls open source. :|

Magnus is an active contributor to PostgreSQL, so I have a hunch that's what ticalc.org is hosted on.

Correct!

MySQL is a key-value store cleverly disguised as a database.
