Verdante Forest RPG Released for 83/83+
Posted by Michael on 12 August 2004, 17:59 GMT

[The Verdante Forest: Arkaine' Arrival]Maarten Zwartbol has released The Verdante Forest RPG: Arkaine's Arrival for the 83 and 83 Plus. Essentially, it is a standard roleplaying game in which you must collect items, fight monsters, and gain experience. However, this project has been under development for three years. Consequentially, the gameplay is detailed by the number of available magic spells, types of armor and weapons, et cetera. This looks as if it will join the ranks of classic 83/83+ RPGs.

Forgive me if I'm stating something you already know, but...

Are you trying to run the program directly from the 'Prog' menu? As it is an ASM program, it will not work correctly with the BASIC interpreter on the calculator. You have to run it in a special way.

Nostub (kernel-less) ASM programs are run by inputing ASM(PROGname) at the home screen.

Many ASM programs (like this one) require the use of a kernel to make them smaller / more efficient. Specifically, this gam needs MirageOS, a free APP that you can download to your TI83+/84+ calculator. Then, you have to run MirageOS from the APPS menu, select the program you want to run, and press enter.

Presto! The game is running.

Well, specifically this game needs Ion but MirageOS works just as well (if not better). It's a matter of personal prefrence.

Sorry about the mix-up; I was just looking at the web page in the file archive, and the game happened to be in the MirageOS category.

Some programs are borken up into many files, due to the size limit on the calcs. Make sure that you have all the needed files on your calculator.

You have to load the TVCHAP1, too. It may not be archived.

Why? Just use the profits to buy a good graphing calculator like the 89!

This is awesome. I wouldn't mind porting this to Flash for the author (if asked). What ever happened to 2nd person MK style fighters? Those games seem rare for TI's and are really cool.

Which both come from Dragon Warrior! Best Fantasy RPG of all time for game boy is Dragon Warrior 3, even though it is really old. It's still the greatest, and the rest of them seem to just copy it. My friend says it's the original game that uses that layout and everything. Don't know if it is, but it's still awesome!
Anyway, I wish I had an 83 right now. This game looks great!

There's a version of Dragon Warrior for the 86, and it's DEFINITELY the best RPG for any TI calc I've seen so far. Still, this one looks good too. I'll have to try it...

I don't even own Dragon Warrior 2, but it's such a great game I almost beat the first Demon Lord in a week...wow, I had that theme song stuck in my head for days afterwards.
