Death Rally for the 83+
Posted by Michael on 10 August 2004, 17:38 GMT

[Death Rally] Patai Gergely has uploaded the final version of his 83 Plus racing game, Death Rally - The Duel. It is not complete and he has encouraged anyone with an interest to finish it. At the present stage of development, it already features realistic looking graphics and physics. Those interested can find the source code in the program zip.

Despite its current state, Death Rally is quite playable for all users to enjoy and so I would encourage you to try it even if you have no interest in working on a new version.

It's a rather special unfinished project, as a matter of fact...

I think it looks nice. You can tell the graphics are great just from looking at the screenshot. Too bad it's not finished.

I'm just as surprised... Not the best introduction, is it?

I don't know what you are talking about in your readme. This game would have been awsome. Even at the stage it is in it works great. I wish you would have finished it.

Nope, I meant the program. I didn't discontinue it because of my satisfaction...

Abandonment

Is this because there are insurmountable difficulties in completing it or is the author simply uninterested in it? Or worse (for the health of the collective brain), is he retiring?

It seems like it would work, from the readme, but not being a gamer, I probably missed some subtle signs :).

I simply had enough of it. If I couldn't get myself to continue it for such a long time, it's better to release the latest version at least. The source might still be a useful source for learning (how to write unmaintainable code :).

The most important aspect is realising that I don't have the resources (time, motivation) to deal with multiple projects. The program I'm currently working on is a completely different project. Check out the link. This one won't see a public release until it's really completed, to avoid the mistake I made with DR.

This would make a really good hovercraft game.

Did someone change the screen shot...?

This program looks interesting. I'll have to pull out my dad's 83+ and give it a try.

Am I going crazy? Is that gray, or is VTI doing a bad job with the picture taking?

-Maybe it is grey... I am W.-

It's VTI blurring gray because the screen was scrolling quite fast.

When I saw this headline in the slashdot slashbox, I assumed that the community was holding a cerimony to mark the 83+'s move into obsolescence (thanks to the 84+, for those of you who live in caves most of the year). Perhaps we should do something to mark the occasion a little late?

I never thought of the title that way. Perhaps it could have been phrased better :)

Actually it's for the good old 83 too. I said this in the upload comment as well, i. e. it should also be linked from the 83 ION and Venus games directories (unless you decide to scrap those in the light of the new developments :).

The TI83(+) won't DIE!!11 NEVAR!!!11
On-Topic: Even in it's uncomplete form it is the only game on ticalc.org that comes close to the more advanced racing games. The tracks are a bit bland but the physics are an excellent addition.

Sure you can. Drop one from a tall building, apply thermite, or use various other methods. :)
