SKye for 89/92+/V200
Posted by Michael on 28 April 2004, 02:56 GMT

[SKye]SKye (yes, with two capital letters) by Jim Babcock is an action-puzzle game for the 89, 92+, and V200. The goal is to collect all of the diamonds on a level, avoiding the monsters. There are various objects along the way to assist you.

In unrelated events only mentioned to decrease the brevity of this news item, I've ordered my 84+ SE :)

Care to mention why it has two capital letters? (Goes to try and find out by himself)

So, what was the price of the 84+SE that you ordered?

First, no more replies to this thread. A price discussion is still off-topic :). I paid about $134 after shipping from schoolmart.com.

Supposedly the game is a remake of "Kye", why he added an "S" I don't know but that is probably the reason for two CApitals.

It looks like a good game, though. I'm definitely going to try it out.

weird old strategy game, had it on some win3.1 game disk (the really compact rectangular type). I think there are a few remakes out there, and I have seen one for a calculator. Kinda like diamond mine with open space and moving things that don't kill you...

That game was awesome! I spent hours playing it and making my own levels.

Me too :) I made a BUNCH of levels on our old, old computer. Some were actually pretty good.

I have to show this game to a friend of mine... we used to make kye levels and send them to each other through e-mail a long time ago.

I have a christmas version of it on a CD somewhere.

The only problem is that it is part of one of those program packages that doesn't have a decent uninstaller ;) . (Maybe it's a Win3.x app? I'll have to check.) I'm not ready to screw up my WinXP installation yet.

DOS/Win3.x Program Emulation

Ypu shouldn't have to worry much about your XP installation, especially if you download DOSBox. DOSBox is an open-source project that emulates DOS to run games, etc. from DOS on newe and or faster platforms. Search sourceforge.com for DOSBox to find the developer's page and a download.

Kye is a strategy game where you are this green circle and you have to move your character around (Kye) and pick up all the diamonds.

You can push blocks, avoid enemies, and do all sorts of stuff. It's a pretty simple game, but the reason I like it is because it has a level editor and you can make your own levels to play.

I haven't tried the calculator version of this yet, but I'm assuming it's going to be similar.

It's Kye, with an "S" added to distinguish it from all of the other versions of Kye, and to make it easier to search for. You can think of it as standing for something like "Super", but mainly it's just for the cool pronunciation.

By the way, if you've made levels (for any version of Kye), send them to me at jimmy_b@earthlink.net and I'll include the best ones in the next version of SKye.

(I had to come up with names for the other versions myself, to keep them apart. There's Kye 1.0 and 2.0, the original Kyes, by the Colin Garbutt, which I refer to as Kye91 and Kye92 by the release date; there's a Kye for the TI-89 by Dillon Collins, which SKye is sort-of compatible with but which is missing a lot of key features, there's PalmKye which is an almost-faithful Kye92 remake with some rules-changing bugs, there's The Amazing Kye which is a crappy shareware remake, and there's a dead Sourceforge project trying to make a Kye 3.0.)

I have played the original of this program on the computer and if the levels are close to the levels (which they look like they are) then it is a very strategic based game with enemies and all. It's a lot of fun, check it out!

I'm glad that he made SKye for the v200, but is he going to make Calc Rogue for v200?

The 92+ version will work on V200. I just wish he'd write AI for CalcRouge.

Just use V200ExePatch. It's worth it. CalcRogue is the best game I've seen so far.

My favorite message while playing game:

Salesguy: Would you like to buy a horse? Only 700 coins!
You: *buys horse*
Message: You're so hungry you could eat a horse. Do so?

lol, that was when I just realized I was starving...
