Maxcoderz, Greenfire Pong Contest Ends
Posted by Michael on 19 April 2004, 03:45 GMT

The programming contest that we previously covered has ended. The winners have been announced on both the Greenfire and Maxcoderz websites. As you may recall, this contest was for the best pong game as judged in several categories. The circle pong entry looks pretty interesting.

Yeah, that does look cool. I wonder if anybody made one of those four-sided pong games? I made a crappy-ish one for the TI-89.

I saw it uploaded here, at ticalc. :)
Looks kinda like the one I made, except mine could go at any angle, rather than the four diagonals... but I wouldn't consider my pong game that great. It gets dull after a while :-\

I was the one who tried to make tiny worms, which seemed to well start, nut in fact I would have to recode everything, I was unskilled, and I some routine were really good, but the organisation was horrible...

Well, once you get started in the language and learn all the fundamentals, then it's pretty easy from there. Maybe if you get bored during the summer, that will give you something to do.

Or, I could rewrite cruel. I need to, to put in new features, and because I don't know how the orignal works.

Bored during summer break? I can't be bored then! My schedule is already packed. 9:00 AM through 11:00 PM - sweat in the hot temperatures and dream of winter, 11:00 PM through 9:00 AM - sleep j/k :)

But seriouly I'm going to be spending my entire summer expanding my assembly skills to.

Don't learn z80 ASM, learn TIGCC! Sure you might not have a calculator to play your stuff on, but that's what emulators are for. Please don't take me seriously.

how 'bout you get both calculators then you can learn z80 asm, 68k asm, and tigcc!

TIGCC is GNU C, not 68k ASM. I think you knew that but I needed to make sure.

What a waste of a contest....pleazee...a pong contest LAMO!

Why not a contest to get a desktop processor working in a ti-89, aswell as a pressure sensitive color screen for stylus action...and probably a mouse port to.

Actually...

..someone already beat him to it. You can get the schematics and software for hooking up a mouse (PS/2, I believe) to a Ti-89 online. Of course, there are very few programs that take advantage of it, so its use is limited.

Hey, and while you're at it add
a 20 gig hard drive and a DVD burner!
But, really, these are calcs that we're
talking about, not computers.
I'm happy as long as it does what it's
suppposed to do.

by the time you put in a new processor and a touch screen and a mouse, then, well, you dont have a ti-89 anymore. You have a suped-up piece of overheating plastic that cant run anything it used to, nor does it have the memory to run anything it should be able to...

Heh, I did :-D *feels special* I've always thought the same thing about LMAO. In fact, I read all the text that I type in my head, and I pronounce "lmao" as "lay-moh."

But either way... a pong contest really isn't lame. I think it's kind of clever, actually. But, whatever, we had this convo back in the article where the announced the contest. :)

All the 3D games that I've seen take up waaaay too much memory. And besides, its a CALCULATOR, not a PS2! Not that calc games are bad, I love making them, but there's a line between calcs and consoles! Besides, the point of the contest is not to try to design something that would be better suited for a computer, but to refine an old classic.
