TI-News Closes
Posted by Michael on 16 February 2004, 01:45 GMT

It is a sad day in the TI community as we have learned that TI-News (link points to the web archive) has permanently shut down. A combination of technical issues and a lack of interest prompted this closure. We wish to thank Tim Buckingham and all of the former TI-News staff for their contributions to the community.

But I don't want to have to keep subscribing to a million services to get what I want. Besides, I like this format better. White is so much nicer than gray-black.

I'll probably feel stupid tomorrow when I look at the replies to this but what the heck:

>Does this mean no more news on ticalc.org too?
>If so, will the rest of ticalc.org stay up and running?

Re: Re: Re: TI-News Closes

That makes NO sense:

There will still be news at ticalc.org but ticlac.org
will no longer exist??

I think it would be either--

>1. No more news on ticalc.org but ticalc.org stays running
>2. Still news on ticalc.org
>3. ticalc.org is going away :-(

--so which is it? 1, 2, or 3?

For those wondering, DLGreen is just one of the many sites hosted by the previous host of TI-News. I told Rick he could remove hosting from his machine.

TI-News has held the following domain names at times: tinews.dhs.org, tinews.net, ti-news.net, ti-news.com

My lack of interest had nothing to do with a lack of users. TI-News had many dedicated fans, with a userbase of well over 2000. I've moved on from computers to music, but I'd like to thank all of the visitors over the years.

I will be releasing the source code to TI-News in the near future, and it can be used freely.

I have no idea if this is really an appropriate forum for such dialog, but here:

1. I have seen Armor For Sleep... twice.
2. The lead guitarist in Further Seems Forever got drunk in my hotel room when I went to Alabama to see my favorite band play in a steel mill and I talked to him and his girlfriend and they were really nice people.

You are a lucky man NickD, and with fine taste in music. And above all, you created the (firstname)(lastinitial).org craze amongst the TI community.

When I can think of an appropriate alcoholic beverage to describe the TI community, I will pour that on the curb for TI-News.

Perhaps a Jello shot?...

That's really too bad...today was the first time I had even heard of TI-news, and it looks like it was a great site... :-(

It was also closed once it became the "Will White and Kerm Martian News Center," as they were abusing the unofficial news feature.

As a former "admin" of TI-News, I support Tim in whatever he wants to do. It was a cool site and I enjoyed reading and making the ocasional news post on it in the past.
