A New 83+ Shell: CrunchyOS
Posted by Michael on 18 January 2004, 13:55 GMT

[CrunchyOS]CrunchyOS by Dan Weiss is an Ion-compatible shell (in the form of a flash app) that has the unique feature of supporting compressed programs. This allows your favorite Ion (and some MirageOS) programs to shrink up to 50%. Game levels can be compressed as well by means of the Windows tool that's included in the zip file. Plus, you won't hear your calculator crunching on RAM, because it's memory leak free. Dan has taken the step of uploading some already-compressed versions of popular games, which are now in the TI-83 Plus Assembly Games (CrunchyOS) directory.

Yea! Way better then mirageOS!
Smaller files!! that rules!
I hope that in the future there are some more options but this is a very good shell.

I already made a program for it!!!!
It shoud be in the archive soon.
The name is: Math (+30 formulas!!!) for CrunchyOS

Yep, you can do Math within CrunchyOS and it has 30 formulas!!!!!!!!

What do you think??!!

I think this happens because the memory leaks.
This is normaly fixed in crunchyOS

I tested the program with mirageOS, it didn't worked ...

But i know some games that work under mirageOS. In the basis program you just have to add (first line) :"PROGRAM NAME . If it stil doesn't work there is "nothing" you can do. (just don't run it under mirageOS).

I am working on a game (basic) and I tested it with mirageOS and that also worked.
The non Graphic version of that game is warriers of death 2 (and with less functions)

CrunchyOS does support basic programs, at least the math program works fine with me.

>>TI-Basic programs are shown on the shell, but TI-Basic program support is far too glitchy right now.

The program I made is very simple so it can run onder crunchyOS. I have fully tested it.

Looks like they just renamed your file to accurately convey that's it's just another basic program that begins with a colon :)

Very good shell, because it can reduce sizes and run basic programs without crashing. It would be perfect if this shell had some more Mirage OS abilities, such as adjust the contrast, create folders, archive/unarchive, lock/unlock, rename programs, and more...

wow.... This is a terribly awesome shell. Way way faster than MirageOS on my BRAND NEW TI-83+ Silver!!! (got it on eBay for $75! In-box and everything). Some of the bad things I noticed about it, though, is the lack of GUIism (cmon... just the plain text?!?!), not being able to do lock/unlock etc..., not displaying any capital L's in BASIC prgms!!! ( so my "LMNOP" is now "MNOP" and my "Loading" now says "oading", not displaying the description in BASIC prgms, and some other lil' things but overall it's awesomer than MirageOS (even though I'll still keep my worthy MirageOS).

One random thing though: Is there a dictionary for any of the TI's?? That WOULD be a huge program, but they could make it an APP!!! (just a thought)

How do you compress other games so that it's compatible for Crunchy?
