New Features Added
Posted by Nathan on 29 October 1999, 08:14 GMT

We are happy to annnounce the addition of two new features. The first feature is that we now have Author Rankings and File Rankings on our file- and author-info pages! It will rate the weekly and all-time popularity of programs daily, based on the number of downloads. These non-scientific rankings (we may have missed a couple downloads after loading old logs) are supplemented by toplists in our Archives section.

The second feature is the ability to download documentation from an archive's fileinfo page. You may now download TXT and DOC files and the like. All of the ZIP files in our archives will have this feature implemented, and authors may email filearchive@ticalc.org to have us disable this feature for any of their programs.

A couple months of FTP logs haven't been proccessed yet, but these'll be done tonight or next week, and after that everything will be quite perfect! :)

I think this is really cool--I haven't seen how my programs have done, but I seem to have a suprisingly high author ranking, Magnus tells me! :)

I usually download a ZIP, then view the docs before deciding to unzip it (I have PKZip for Windows). That new feature is a Good Thing, IMHO.

Feature Use

This is really an awesome idea! No more downloading a game just because it has a weird name or it's new and not knowing what it actually is.

The toplists is pretty cool, too. Not surprised that zshell is up top.

You guys just don't stop do you?

I noticed that 3 copies of phx.zip were in the top 25 this week. I assume this was from Pheonix's updating multiple times this week. It would be nice to see the program description, as well. I don't know what half of those zip files are off-hand, without the aid of the program description.

More likely it's because there are multiple files called phx.zip in the system. Remeber that if I program is in multiple directories, there need to be multiple files in order to that.

How about including the calculator it runs on, too. That would be nice to see. Especially if a certain program runs on more than one (like Pheonix or ZTetris).

Hmm, there's two Bill Nagel's in the author toplist. Who is this mysterious twin? =)

If you click the links, you will notice it has two different e-mail addresses. This may have happaned for more than one author :-(

Anyways. If authors that have had this happen to them mail me (or filearchive@ticalc.org), we will merge them into one (naturally, the counters will add up - nothing is lost).

One of the things I hope to do in the not-so-distant future is get all the discrepancies with author names and emails sorted out, merging all the duplicates.
Don't press me on that, though. :)

I think that an author should not get a good score or a reward if he does not make atleast one program for the Ti 83+ ION. If he does this, then he proves his dedication to the millions AND MILLIONS of the Ticalc 83+'s Fans. IF YOU SMELL WHAT YOUR MOM........IS COOOKING!

love ya,
beasty

P.S. If you dont agree with me im going to take your ticalc calculator, shine it up real nice, TURN THAT SONABITCH SIDEWAYS, AND STICK IT STRAIGHT UP YOUR CANDY ASS!!!!

I'm going to buy a ti-83+ and turn that som' bitch sideways, and stick it straight up your roody poo, candy ass! Anyway, I really like this idea, it sounds cool. I hope no programmer actually spends hours re-downloading their own programs just to get a better score or something.

Another flamebait post from that lazy bum ass.

Why don't you just jump off a clift and every game will be made for your calculator that you can imagine.

Although this idea in itself is ridiculous, it does give an idea for a useful feature. This would be the program IQ estimation, which lists next to each programmer's name what the programmer's intelligence is. Although it could never be exact, I have come up with a method that should get very close. The formula for this would be:

IQ = 120 - (50 * # of 83+ games released) + (10 * # of other games released)

Hm, that gives you an IQ of 1320. That's more in range for an SAT score. Write a few more programs and you can have a 1600 ;)

A better thing to do would be to take Beasty's comment and paste it into an email to all 83+ developers.

It'd be too bad if all 83+ owners had to suffer b/c of.. of.. which one of the seven dopes are we talking about? :P

Re: Re: Re: Re: New Features Added

Actually, I was thinking of a more conservative count for programs; for example, writing the same program for ZShell, Usgard, and TI-86 Asm would only be counted as one. Also, things such as external levels files wouldn't count.

Also, though I don't want to say whether it was too high or too low, 1320 is not particularly close to my SAT score.

In that case, Sam's IQ would be even lower!

Re: Re: Re: New Features Added

Under your formula, Sam would have an IQ of 660. Going to do something productive.
