Texas Instruments Announces CBL2
Posted by Nick on 23 October 1999, 19:00 GMT

Texas Instruments has announced that they will release a new version of their Calculator-Based Laboratory called the CBL2. It includes many new features, including backwards compatibility with any old CBL programs and workbooks and support for the new FLASH-based calculators. It will be available in March of 2000.

TI misspelled transferring. Don't believe me? click the web page link. The graphic on the 83+ image goes through a sim of the usual Link | Receive routine. However, it says WAITING... in all caps and has a blinking cursor. Then it says "TRANSFERING..." When did the 83+ ever say TRANSFERRING in all caps anyway?

The CBL's aren't all that bad. For physics you can use the 3-d force probe to get g's and velocity for things like your car, movement, etc. We were going to use ours for physics day at Great America to get the g's of the rollercoasters, but none of the calcs then had enough memory to store all the data for such a long time. Vernier built some nice probes for it, and their software was really good too.

And has no one taken the time to read what TI has put on their site?

http://www.ti.com/calc/docs/cbl2bid.htm reads:

"Flash memory (operating system is electronically upgradable, update built in user programs, archive data)"
"3 analog channels, one sonic/bi-directional digital port"
"Ability to use CBL 2 as a portable hard drive for the calculator (store/retrieve other user programs, regular data lists using a Flash management program)"
"Can retrieve archived data with any calc"

So knowing these things, isn't anyone else dreaming of using these attached to your calc as a sort of math coproc for 3D gaming? Or maybe a huge 20hr RPG on the 83? (or another calc w/ little mem)

Since this thing uses the link port to the calc, maybe we can use the bi-directional data port for linking to another calc/CBL2 combo, for 2 player DukeNukem3D?

Really? You can use the CBL 2 as a harddrive to store exess programs and stuff? Cool!!! It will be like an Expander 2 except for it is much more powerful. This is great!!! By the way, how much memory does it have? This really changes my view of the CBL 2. I might even consider purchasing one (if I can ever find a store that carries it).
