7th Grade Student Overclocks TI-89 A Bit Too Much
Posted by Nick on 24 September 1999, 23:10 GMT

WALLA WALLA, WA - On Wednesday, a seventh grader attending Lincoln Middle School accidentally overclocked his TI-89 "a bit too much," sources say.

Glowing TI (thanks to DOZIEDO)

The student, named Bryant Kramss, replaced the C9 capacitor with one made of pure radium for reasons unknown. According to family members, Bryant "felt he had an innate need to make his TI-89 three kilohertz faster" by replacing it with the insanely unstable element.

As noticeable in the picture, taken in supposedly total darkness, the 89 has obtained a pale greenish glow. Rumors that the modified 89 does 100! in under a picosecond are unconfirmed.

Bryant was admitted to Holy Family Hospital in Walla Walla on Thursday morning after he happened to notice the growth of a small tumor and an extra arm. He was then given prompt chemotherapy and he is now in serious condition. He is expected to fully recover very soon, as the dosage of radiation was not severe enough to cause any permanent damage.

The 89 is currently under the FBI's custody, which is having tests run on it. The source of the radium is still unknown.

Fake news gets more responses then real news? Does anyone else see the irony in that?

No, I don't, because there are more people who relate to humor than, say, questions asked on Slashdot or on-calc compilers and such.

Neon Glow and massive alterations of the brightness and contrast, actually :)

maple? no way! mathematica is much better. i'm surpized that ti didn't consult wolfram when they first put a cas on calc.

Hmm, mathematica will due? When will mathematica be due? I hope I don't have to upgrade to mathematica before the deadline. I like my TI 89 just fine right now, since I don't have filthy rich parents to buy me a laptop/mathematica. Oh well.

Mathematica is computer software. It obviously doesn't fit on your ti-89. :P

Yes, I realize that Mathematica is computer software, which is why I stated that I do not have filthy rich parents who will buy a _laptop_/mathematica for me.

Ha, I beat you too! I have a PowerBook G3 Wallstreet with 160 Mb RAM and I like kicking back to a nice game of Unreal with my built-in ATI 3D card while in my Cisco class.

Not that it really matters or anything! ;-)

Toodles

yea, right. like that would ever happen. weve got a better chance of all being abducted by aliens, than that unlikely story. the pic was probably faked in photoshop.

Oooohhhh :-o , poor little TI89 just born, just died...

The radium is a little in the TI89, I opened my TI92 and i found a little microphone near the TI link jack, there wear also an cam an a cellular phone to communicate all what i do to the TDP (TI Database of People), well there was a spy in my calc. But that all, I find also a pack of TNT (It why the TI92 is so big...)

I have seen a TI82 opened, in it there is a martian.

Now I have seen all this, a little peace of radium is nothing for me (and it is very funny, now i could be seen the night and my TI92 too :-) ).

Woah!
programerman

I have a TI-89. Is there a way to stabily put radium in there for that three extra hertz? I doubt it, but hey! I'm reply (direct or indirect) 179, which meants nothing! See ya!
