Compiler v1.0 - Asm On-Calc Compiler For 89
Posted by Nick on 17 September 1999, 00:12 GMT

Dimension-TI was the first to report that Jean Milleron has released a revolutionary assembly compiler, appropriately named Compiler v1.0. Shockingly enough, the program is written in BASIC(!) and uses the Exec function of the 89 to accomplish its task. It's run from the command line like any normal BASIC program. Anyone writing 68k for the 89 should check this out.

How come Dim_TI always has the Front Story Items while Ticalc.org is a day or so behind? Is there some miscommunication or do programmers contact Dim_Ti First? Why is this. I think you guys should have on person solely dedicated to news items, a person that reports every news items, writes it, finds it, ect...
You have yo beat the competition some how...since they are ( RIght now ) beating you. :(

I do not believe this is totally true... when I look at the most recent articles, I know that two of them were on ticalc.org and then Dim-TI added them. And then we added this off of their site. Obviously in one case one site got the news first and in the other case the other site got the news first. I haven't a problem with sharing stuff like this...

No, that's not true. Dimension-TI rarely ever posts news that was on ticalc.org first because we don't want to take other's work; if ticalc.org took the time to hunt down the news then we respect their work and won't take it for our own use. Of course there's exceptions, like when TI releases a new calculator or something, but we usually stick to this policy. And if you're thinking that you got either of the on-calc compiler articles first, you're incorrect. Don't mean to start "site competition" but I just needed to correct the information given by Kirk.

If we find a news article from another place, we give them credit. People have a right to know this stuff, and if only one site carries the news item, there's a lesser chance that everyone will find out. We just try to spread the word about important news items.
Okay, enough rambling for now, I need to do homework.

I never said it was a bad thing. I was simply responding to Kirk Meyer's incorrect assumption about the previous news articles, not about ticalc.org's policies.

I do know that Clement Vasseur sent me the file and I saw it and tried it out, then submitted it to our archives and wrote up the news article. I don't know whether Dim-TI ever had the article or not. <shrug> I also doubt it really matters (in this instance).

Well actually I was referring to the article on ChASM. And I absolutely know that you didn't post that before us. Again, I am not saying that there is anything wrong with it. I'm just saying, that it is a two way street.

I know this is off topic, but I just love it when Kirk associates himself with ticalc.org when he RETIRED! blah blah, he said "us" and not "ticalc.org", but whatever, I mean, it's no surprise to everyone...

He didn't retire. He stopped doing news and file updates. He is still actively with us in systems programming. This was stated in the news article (which I posted) and stated on the staff page.

How come in a news artical way back when you stated that he was retiring?? I don't really care bout it anymore, it's what he wants to do, and none of us TI-CALC users' business...

Was it deleted or just lost? Toward the bottom of this discussion (well, the bottom as it is today) there is talk about the cron daemon crapping out on the server. Your comment may have just slipped through the cracks. One of mine did, and it was not really too controversial.

Many posts (such as the one you just made) are merely off-topic and are deleted as such.

I do the news for Ti-Files and I disagree that it's a race. The reason the sites (usually) don't post news that's already on other sites is out of respect for the site that got the news first. Ticalc has credited the sites that post news before they do and I don't see anything wrong with that. I've seen all three sites get news items before the others and I don't think ticalc is losing, especially since there isn't much site competition anymore and I think it's been good for the TI community that there isn't much in the way of site wars anymore.

I don't mean to violate any rule on posts concerning site competition and I encourage peace between TI sites.

Does it really matter to you that much that one site posts a news item a day or two ahead of another. Maybe people are busy with school. Maybe you should get a life besides checking calculator sites each hour for the latest news. On a side note: I can't believe I actually had to set up an account just to post a message on this board. At least let me choose the password so I don't have to memorize something like bDha13z0, that's lame.

Well, we had trouble with people impersonating others and frequent postings that violated our rules and such. Go and change your password; of course you can change it!
