Virtual TI-89/92(+) v1.0 Beta released
Posted on 27 December 1998, 00:35 GMT

Rusty Wagner has released Virtual TI-89/92(+) v1.0 Beta for Windows. This is an emulator for all 68k based TI calculators, which includes the TI-89, TI-92, TI-92 II, and TI-92 Plus. This emulator has many great features, here are just a few:

  • ROM versions are automatically detected
  • Switch between ROM versions without restarting the emulator
  • Archive memory support for TI-89 and TI-92 Plus
  • Send files to the calculator
  • Use a TI Graph-link cable to connect to a real TI-89 or TI-92
  • Save and load the state of the calculator. Any changes to the Flash ROM will be included in the state
  • 4-level and 7-level grayscale support
  • Bitmap of the calculator with clickable buttons

You will need a ROM dump of your calculator to use this emulator. Since it is illegal to distribute them on the Internet, you will have to dump your own. The emulator includes a built-in ROM dumper for use with a TI-89 or TI-92 Plus. If you have a TI-92, you can use one of the various ROM dummping programs on this site.

Rusty has also released the source code for his emulator program. It requires C++Builder 3 to compile.

Im having slight problems using my graphlink with it...is it possible to have the emulator load a RAM dump from the calculator?

I want to dump, but I can't find the DUMPRECV.exe file anywhere. It isn't included with the ti89 romdump.zip file and can't be found in the windows archive. I don't want to attemp the built in rom dumper again, because I waited 2 hours only to see "Waiting...". It also doesn't feel honest to use the previously mentioned flash rom method. If someone could direct me to the dumprecv.exe file, I would be eternally grateful.

you say it "doesn't feel honest" to download the ROM from TI's page, but if you actually own a TI-89, there's nothing wrong with it. There is no difference (either legally OR morally) between getting the file from your calculator and getting exactly the same file (literally idendical, byte-for-byte) from the internet.

This may be the wrong place for this question but does anyone know if this runs under Wine. (Windows emulator for Linux)

I doubt it would work for wine, considering it only works for 95 and 98 (and NT5.0). Wine rarely works for Win95 programs (atleast the last time I checked, but there are plenty of exceptions). If you get it working please let me know =)

Well, it at least *starts* under wine, but it can't find any rom dumps. (It works just fine under windows).

If anyone finds a workaround - tell me!

brad - same email as above

Wine (Linux)
Brad

I got it to work. All you have to do is run: wine progman, and then go to File -> Run and start it. The only problem is the keyboard layout doen't work - that is [Left arrow key]=2, [Up]=4, [Right]=6 and [Down]=8. But since the source is available, someone could port it to Linux =).

Do you have to use a graphlink cable to send files and programs to the emulator or what?

Well normally I do, but this time I didn't even look. (no excuse, but yeah, no one ever reads instructions these days...it's not like NOTEPAD has a god-forsaken splash screen)

Ok, so i got the rom off my calculator, but how do i run programs. I cant seem to figure out how to run a program that i have downloaded off the net. I have some basic programs and some assembly programs, all in my virtual ti-89/92 directory, how do i run them from the emulator?

When you fire up the emulator, press F10. It brings up an open file dialog. From there, you can select any *.89* file to load onto the virtual calculator.

Yeah, the same thing is happening to me too! I load the files on to the emulator and try to run them, and when I press enter, it just says "done"
Please help!
