TI-Files acquires a domain name
Posted on 12 October 1998, 01:51 GMT

TI-Files became only the second active TI calculator fan website to acquire a domain name on Friday, 9 October 1998. The new site, http://www.ti-files.org, runs on Dave Jaklitsch's computer under Windows 98. Dimension TI also plans to get a domain name soon.

Ok, ok...the only point of this was to show off my new e-mail address :) But seriously...thanks again you guys, with our new domain name we hope to make it easier for people to visit and relay our site address, as well as boost hits. I feel kinda weird saying this on our biggest competition's site...as well as saying it with GOOD intention (unlike my usual comments...), but hey, thanks a lot!

P.S.-You guys don't suck anymore (but seriously Bryan...5 hours a day updating? Lemme wire you some money so you can take a vacation.)

P.P.S.-J/K about the money thing...but i can direct you to a really good travel agent.

P.P.P.S.-J/K about the travel agent thing too...

I'm not one to get envious over the fact that TI-Files has capital letters in their title and ticalc doesn't. Come on, it's only Roman derived ascii characters we're talking about, it's the same thing. I'm not case sensitive when it comes to coding programs, and the same goes for my titles. If you type all lower case letters for the address, why not make the title lower case? And I show no animosity towards any ti calculator web site, because a lot of work and effort goes into pleasing us internet/calculator junkies. Anyone who wants to criticize or flame a site, must first make their own site equal or superior in caliber.

Well, I've always thought that ticalc.org looked best as is--without caps. It's logical, too, because most URIs and other Internet address are not only case-sensitive, but also lowercase.

Besides, even with it being all lowercase, most people *still* can't spell the site's name! I see all kinds of depressing variations on the lists and everywhere else.

No one seems to be able to spell ticalc.org, Usgard, ZShell, etc., even though they're completely simple. I've seen some horrible things out there... ;)

Anyhow, I think it's fine the way it is (and I know it doesn't matter what I think... they won't change it for me, anyway, hehe).

Hmmmm. Interesting. The subject of this list has been completely changed in no more than 27 entries....

TI-Files acquires a domain name
Shut u[p

Would everyone just shut the fuck up about TI-Files and TiCalc.org They both kick ass and you freaking lamers out there ruining the TI-Community is pathetic. I really would like to see some TI person not being so lame. Not that every TI person is lame. I know a hell a lot of them that are cool, but c'mon, some of you guys got to disagree with these accusations of who is better. THEY BOTH ROCK!!

Regarding the name: In my PRIME docs, I always call it Ticalc.org, since I can't stand looking at a proper noun not capitalized.
<<Yes they do, i posted a program on the files and it was at ticalc.org within the week. >>
I don't know about Ticalc.org, but TI-Files had a habit of copying my programs to their sites within days of my posting them to Ticalc.org, without notifying me. People should be aware that TI programs (of all kinds, asm and basic) are COPYRIGHTED by their programmers, and it's nice to ask for permission before indiscriminately copying them to their archives.
<<Of all the little fan sites for TI graphing calculators, one has had a domain name.>>
I myself am loyal to Ticalc.org, because they look so damn professional.
<< these are CALCULATORS! its not the end of the world>>
Imagine what Isaac Newton could have done with a TI-30. Wait - what would he have done with a TI-85. No, wait. What would have have done with a TI-92+? I can see mathematics leaping ahead, oh, 500 years or so.
"Riemann hypothesis? Oh, yeah, I did that as a complex proof in 6th grade and an elementary proof in 10th.... All the roots have real part 1/2! Here, let me show you on my TI-137...."

BTW, you forgot to capitalize a personal pronoun in your response. Asides from that, copyright doesn't mean crap unless you sell the program and have a legal team comparable to Bill Gates's. There is no way you can keep track of all the software if transmission is free and unsupervised. I know there is some sort of unspoken code of honor upheld by 'righteous' calulator owners, but there are many who are sinful and evil!! Feel free to track them all down (if you have the time). Just think of the guy who made Drug Wars. He might claim he was the original, but nobody will believe him, because it's all over the states (world?). Learning assembly remains the best option for keeping programs intact, and attributable to the original author. People can still hack the code, but at least the pool is greatly reduced so it's easier to keep track of.

Well, it looks like the Ti-Files have finally gained a domain name and achieved Godly status, just like ticalc.org. Guess we can't bust on them anymore...Hmmm let's see, Dimension TI doesn't have a domain name yet...
