Maze-3D v0.4 Beta Released
Posted on 20 September 1998, 23:54 GMT

[Maze-3D Screenshot]
After months of development and beta testing, CLEM has finally released Maze-3D v0.4 Beta for the TI-86. This is a 3D raycasting game similar to Daedalus for the TI-85. There are no enemies in this version, however the gameplay is fast even with grayscale. Also included is a lite version (438 bytes smaller) that is black & white instead of grayscale. Both versions feature three different screen sizes, so the game runs faster if you are willing to sacrifice screen size. If you own a TI-86, this is a must download! (Note: the screnshot displayed is of a pervious version of Maze-3D, however it looks almost the same as version 0.4 Beta.)

GreyScale SS?
Chernobyl

How do you take greyscale screenshots, like the one for maze-3d?

You can't take screen shots of greyscale. Grayscale works because the grey points flash very quickly on the screen and leave their image temporarily. If you stop the flashing, the screen will be in black and white.

Great game, but... anyway that you will be able to strafe in the final version?

I beat the maze already, i admit the graphics are good, and i couldn't program this, but what do we really need this for? i'd much rather have the mosaic shell or more applets for cymbol. no offense clem.

Your observation is degrading to a great programmer like clem. For as long as assembly has existed on z80 calculators, only *ONE* true 3-Dimensional game has existed. Personally, I am amazed that two highly respectable projects(Maze 3d by Clem and 3d Game by Adamman) have appeared for the 8x series of calculators. What good comes out of questioning, no Slandering, progress. Nothing. Nothing at all. So, why don't you go make your applets for mathematics(which TI basic was designed to allow) and I'll be wowed by a true work of brilliance.

I have commented about this elsewhere, but I though that in this story it would get more attention... Its somewhat unrelated, but it is still about Clem and the shell, just not 100% on topic... here it is:

Has anyone noticed that the Windows 2000 shell page has the same screen
shots as those posted by Philip in his article and the one that Clem and Philip
are using for the shell. I wonder how this could have happened.... could
HackNiN be stealing shots...no, that can't be it, it would be dishonest... I
wonder what the story is.....
anyway, this is the page, last I checked:

I noticed that, too. I was going to e-mail HackNiN about it, but I forgot. Very strange!!

I would want to know what HackNiN has to say also. If I was Philip, and HackiNiN was using my artwork without my permision, I would slap him upside the head with an 92+, and then I would bring in the lawyers or something.....

Great game! One question: Is there going to be a deathmatch mode?

My friend showed me this thing earlier, and my GOD! wow! I can't wait for the final release. I hope there will be strafe support. (I don't know how hard that would be)

This is just a suggestion, but wouldn't it be cool to make this into a 2 player game where you linked calcs and walked through the maze trying to kill the other player.

P.S. great game!!!

Re: Re: Maze-3D v0.4 Beta Released

Now theres a really good idea. I would love to link with my friends and beat them down. If I had the skill to make this game, I'd do some of the list below.

1) As another person mentioned, I'd cut down on greyscale, just a bit. I love the brick textures, but some of the wall designs are a bit excessive.

2) This idea of yours is really good. Multiplayer would be fantastic, although a pain in teh ass to implement.

3) I'd have 3 weapons in the game, one of which would be a knife of some sort. Any more would be excessive.

4) Single player would be simple, with only a few enemies.

BUT, since I don't have the skill to do this kind of work, I'll leave a few of these suggestions to the superior programing of CLEM, and look ahead to future versions of Maze 3d.

Keep up the good work, CLEM!!!

Luke

is 3D maze a true 3D engine, or a 2.5 doom/wolfenstein like engine?

     26 September 1998, 16:53 GMT

Re: Re: Maze-3D v0.4 Beta Released
David

Maze3d is definitly not 3d, and I have doubts about it being 2.5 D either. Look at the screen warping around the edges on larger screen sizes. I would call it a 2.25 D engine.

Farkle Master

Will Daedalus ever be ported to TI-86? It is verry kewl cuz I have a TI-85 and a TI-86 but I would rather play it on the TI-86. I tried it under some different shells on the TI-86 but it wouldn't emulate(it just froze up). Thats all I have to say. BTW, Maze 3D is a great game!!!!!!

I tried that too, it didn't work, will there ever be a shell that will emulate all of the ti-85's programes?

Re: Re: Re: Maze-3D v0.4 Beta Released
David

It's doubtful that a shell will be made to emulate all of the 85's progs, beacuse a program can only be 10-12 k in size, or it will lock up the calc. I have no idea why TI made this limitation, but it is a real pain in the ass. Read some of the comments in the Little Dude 2 section.
