Graphics: 9/10 - Good graphics. Features a few different piece settings.

Features: 10/10 - Play chess with a friend, a computer, watch 2 computers play, computer nodal display & book options (kudos to this), puzzles, save game option, 5 difficulty settings. This game is packed.

Difficulty: 1/10 - The computer was pretty easy even at level 5. Searched a respectable calc speed of 200 positions per second (but at level 5 when it needs around 40000 positions to search it takes a good few minutes to do so). Approximately searches around 5 moves ahead. Well at least it's the best that a calculator chess playing program can do.

Replay Value: 9/10 - This game was meant to be played over and over again!

Overall: 7/10 - If the computer was harder and faster, this program would receive a higher score. But this is a classic game for the TI-89, so I recommend this to everyone. It is feature packed and the best chess program of TI-89 to date.

I have yet to defeat this game, although I was the Wiesbaden American Middle School chess champ from 2003-2005. If you would like to brush up on making checkmate moves, there are around seventy puzzles you can do to try to checkmate an enemy in 2-5 turns.

Graphics: 10/10 - Superb graphics for a calc. Two piece sets are available
Gameplay: 10/10 - Most difficult game I've played!
Concept: 10/10 - I love chess!
Memory: 8/10 - Requires a bit of memory
Game Value: 10/10 - If you can beat the AI, I commend you as a strategic genius!

"TI Chess" is a great chess game for the calculator. The graphics are great and the puzzle mode is challenging and will extend gameplay time. The AI is tough. Isn't that always great?

Really like the puzzle options, it helps my game and it gives me a short little game to do and not a long chess game.

Graphics 10/10
Gameplay 10/10

TI-Chess is a great chess program for the 68k series calculators that has excellent AI and great features. The AI is almost unbeatable on the lowest level even for people who are very good at chess. I would say that I beat it about 10 percent of the time, and I am pretty good at chess. I think the AI is actually somewhat of a good match for a human, because sometimes it actually takes quite a while for the calculator to make a move, so a good human could keep pace.

As for the graphics, they are superb. You can choose between different piece sets; and gameplay is very intuitive. There are also puzzle sets, which you can try to solve by checkmating the opponent in a certain number of moves.

Graphics: 8/10
Controls: 9/10
AI: 10/10
Overall: 9/10

“TI-Chess” is an amazing achievement that anyone who likes chess will probably love. Once you "feed" the calc an opening book (found on the TICT website), the AI plays with a good deal of variety. The only time I managed to defeat the AI on the lowest setting was when I managed to distract it with a sacrifice of a rook right before I checkmated it. I have not been able to reproduce this event, unfortunately.

Basically, “TI-Chess” is a must-download if you like chess, this game's two-player mode is fun for a round of blitz-chess (the calc's screen is too small for extended play of strategy games.) I don't know if it's a reasonable request, but link play would be nice. It's a tad annoying to keep switching the calc between two people while they play.

As an added bonus, you can download "puzzle" files from the TICT website, and attempt to solve these puzzles when you're not in the mood for a lengthy game against the calc. The only limitations of the game are not problems with the game itself, but with the limitations of the calc; namely, the size of the screen and the speed of play of the AI on any level higher than three. Thankfully, the AI is so good that most people will find an ample challenge on the lower levels itself.

I rate it a 9/10.

Attention span: 9/10 What can I say? It's chess.
Controls: 10/10: Great!!
Implementation: 10/10: For it's purpose, perfect.
Overall: 10/10 This is bound to become a classic.

Yeah, you guessed it, this is the real 3000 year old game. Nothing has changed and it's still lots of fun. Even if the graphics aren't what I'd call great, that's not exactly the point now is it? This is chess. It doesn't need to look like a Rembrandt.

The game's interface is one of the best I've ever encountered. It features a handy-dandy help screen with everything the user needs to know. Hell, it even features a save game file (saved as an external str file). What more could you want? A good AI? It's even got that! It took me forever to beat the darn thing on level 3. Which is, by the way, the only thing I could see wrong with the game. It takes a really long time for the AI to calulate the moves after level one.

Overall, it outmatches all the other chess programs for TI calculators out there. Graphics aren't a necessity so the game isn't super huge either (about 23K) and it doesn't run off any libs at all! Oh by the way, did I mention that this game will run without any shell? I recommend this game to anyone who plays chess at all.

“TI-Chess” is a must-download program for any owner of a 68k calculator! I especially liked the puzzles to solve and the rotating of the board 180 degrees. It's great for any player, beginner or expert, and it's something great to do during math class! (or in chess club for that matter)! Also, the AI is superb, and may be just as good as any computer chess game that you can buy.

There is only one rating deserving of this awesome program: a 10 out of 10! Excellent work! Kudos to the TI-Chess Team!

Why do you have to read any further?

Just download it! :D Believe me! It's just amazing.

Even if you don't play chess you should download this beauty and burn it on a gold CD and kept it inside an anti-radioactive box protected with 9 locks and 11 chains!

:D

The execution is smooth, the graphics are excellent (for a W&B calc), playability is good, and nothing to say about it features! Just DOWNLOAD IT! AND WHAT'S MORE IMPORTANT, PLAY IT!

Wow! I played this on a friend's calculator and I was HOOKED! If there ever is a version for 83+'s, I'm definitely gonna get it! Actually there's a pretty good chess engine for the 83+ Ion shell, but the AI doesn't know how to checkmate.

But wow! This chess rendition is great!

10 out of 10! Definitely!

What can I say? This game is any chess geek's dream. Even if you don't like chess, it is still worth the download just to see the amazing things that can be done with the 89. The AI is decent (I still can't beat level five) and speed is very good for a chess computer. This game is a MUST download!

Overall ratings (1 to 10):

Concept-->10

Speed-->9

Interface-->10

Ease of use-->10

Overall rating-->10

This program is an amazing version of chess developed by the TI-Chess Team. For anyone that knows how to play chess, this should be an obvious download.

The artificial intelligence is programmed very well. I am a farily good chess player, and I have troubles on level 3. There are also books you can download, which keeps track of common game openings, so openings can be played near instantly. There are also downloadable chess puzzles that can be done right in the program itself.

TI-Chess also keeps track of time in tournament format (like those chess clocks that you hit when you end your turn), and automatically records your games, so a well-played game can be saved for eternity.

If you remotely like chess or know someone who does, you must download this file. Now. Really.
