Hmm, seem to be missing a "once every few months and it's still working fine!" option.

"A few times, and it still works fine!" came close enough for me.

It seems to me that a lot of survey options could be better thought out.

Many years ago I dropped my 83+ out of my hand from about four feet high (above concrete). I managed to throw my arm out and somehow swat the calculator as it tumbled, sending it flying into my leg. My finger caught on that little plastic ridge underneath the ON button which allowed me to pin the 83+ against my leg until I could grab it with my other hand. That seemingly pointless plastic bump saved my beloved calculator from probable destruction.

Well there's my story :) Since then I have dropped calculators a few times onto carpet from a foot or two and they've been fine.

That little plastic tab isnt all that useless. I think that it is so nothing slips under the case and hits the on button. This would waste your batteries alont if it kept happening. :)

It's actually so that the case itself doesn't push the [ON] button.

83+: Dropped several times, was run over by car, still works.

V200: handled with kid gloves, screw left loose in case during manufacturing, shorted out, does not work.

89Ti: Dropped twice, run over by utility cart, still works.

I "demonstrated" the durability of my 83 a few too many times at school. Sometimes it goofs up, but it still works fairly well. Unfortunatly I don't have much of a school to go to since Hurricane Katrina destroyed it.

Okay, I live in Pass Christian, Mississippi, which means I go to Pass Christian High School. The whole first floor of the school was underwater. Now we are going to school in double wide FEMA trailers at another school in the Pass Christian. The new trailer school is located at Delisle Elementary. All four Pass Christian District schools are now all going to the same school. Good thing we are a small school district, or it would be bad. Oh, if you were wondering, yes, school does really suck now. Our first four weeks of school were not counted. Until now, we have had port-o-potties for bathrooms, but we did just get in bathrooms in trailers. And yes, my house is okay, even though most of the shingles on the roof blew off. We lost a lot of our trees, and the flood water was about 5 feet from entering my house. The traffic has gotten worse and worse over the months after the storm. It takes an hour and a half to go to Biloxi now, when it used to take about 30 minutes. Highway 90, the only road that travels the whole coast was unusable until just a few weeks ago, but many of the other roads branching off of 90 are gone, and the bridges are gone. Also, yes, I am okay, and so is my whole family, even though a lot of them lost their houses. If anyone wants to contact me, just email me, or you can chat with me online.

Forgot to mension, I was in a hotel room when I wrote the first comment. We stayed in our house during the storm, and it was scary. The walls shook, the wind was ripping past the windows. We could hear trees snapping outside. It was hot, and we did not have any flowing water. We would take a pitcher of cold water and wash down every night. Luckily, we had a genorator, so we watched the news throughout the storm. It was creepy the first night. No one knew what was goinging on around where I live and farther west. No one had communication. The landline telephones did not work, and cell phone towers were without power. It is still weird to this day. I drive down the road and see campers, appliances and trees on the side of the road, shells of houses, and everything is clear in the woods.

Are you all right? Are you still in New Orleans? Or were you able to evacuate to a secure location?

Who's brilliant idea was it to build New Orleans beneath sea level AND next to a warm-water gulf? I certainly hope that the US government isn't stupid enough to rebuild the city in the same place; they'd better build it somewhere ABOVE sea level, at least!

Are you kidding? Why do you think people moved there in the first place? This goes back to the argument of whether or not people in hurricane zones should pay more for insurance.

My thoughts exactly when I heard it was below sea level - you're just ASKING for something like this to happen!

Yes, I think the government *is* probably stupid enough to rebuild in the same place. Just look at how they screwed up the rescue efforts..."shoot to kill for looters"...

I agree completely. Who's bright idea was it to build a city BELOW sea level? The engineers who designed the dams even said it wouldn't work, but Nooooo, nobody listens.

Obviously, the levee system needed upgrading...of course, with no federal money and states strapped for cash, they decided *it would hold* (never mind the levees were designed for a C3 hurracane, not a C4 or C5). Obviously, if we can't deal with domestic issues (like natural disasters) effectively, it indicates that we are over-extended as a nation.

Has no one thought to blame this on the French? Who do you think built the city there in the first place? Bunch of damn idiots...

By the way, what is this crap about "rebuilding it somewhere else?" It's not in the government's to just go and move a city, you know.

Actually, New Orelans was founded just above sea level by the French. The rest of the area which is now inhabited was at the time useless swampland (the French Quarter, from which the rest of New Orelans grew, is still above sea level, but is flooded because Lake Ponchetrain (sp?) is draining into the New Orelans basin to the point it too is overwhelmed). It was our (the Americans') brilliant idea to pump out the water to build below sea level. This still doesn't answer the question though: who was responsible for developing those areas of New Orelans?

I could understand if they told them to arrest anyone who shot at them, but if they say "shoot to kill looters" then it's easy for them to see some starving homeless person breaking into a store for food, think that he/she is looting, and shoot. The looting doesn't necessarily have a connection with the people who shot at the helicopters.

Anyways, this is getting too off-topic, so this is my last post on the subject. ;-)

I wish TI would make their calculator battery cover hold in more. Whenever 70% of the time I drop my calc, the batteries pop out; the ram gets cleared. How annoying!

I thought I heard a TI representative threw a TI-89 against a wall as a demonstration & it stopped working (it was, of course, supposed to survive)...I think that should certainly count as calculator abuse. :)

At any rate, I used to drop my TI-86 almost every day...it always fell out of my pocket when I was sitting down. I do not drop my TI-92+ very often, but that is mainly because it is usually lying on a flat surface or hiding in my backpack.
