In my opinion, the AI is quite hard to beat. I came close to beating it one time... it seemed like both of our ships disappeared at the same time, but I still lost. :-(

Not enough pixels on most Z80's for voxel-program; if so mem would be an issue... unless someone could make a memcard addition for Something like SD or CF...

Check out the HP49G+, it has
SD slot that supports up to 512MB
75Mhz Processor
A CAS comparable to the 68K calcs
RPN !!

I bought one a few months ago, I love it.

Oh yes, the opetating system is emulated, so it doesn't run at 75 Mhz. I think that you could program for Assembly for the REAL processor. I believe that I read this somewhere.

Yeah. Even though HP doesn't support it -- according to them, you have to write in either userRPL (same level as TI Basic) or ASM/sysRPL for the emulated Saturn processor.

A bunch of users had to use hacks to find a backdoor into ARM assembly.

Now, work is proceeding on 16-bit 44kHz sampled audio, 4-bit greyscale (the hardware actually has the potential for 16-bit greyscale once you get rid of that pesky emulation), multithreaded processes (aparently supported by the underlying calc ROM that is running the emulator) and access to FAT16 filesystems on the SD card.

The HP port of gcc is in early stages right now, but should eventually be able to produce code that would work equally well on the HP 49g+, the HP 48gii (budget, non-flashable model) and the HP 39g+ (TI 83+ competitor).

The gcc port is in VERY early stages!
The code will probably run much slower on the HP-39g.

The 39g+ has the same rating on its CPU as the 49g+, 75 MHz. It has been overclocked to 200 MHz, but that's only advisabe for short periods of time since it drains the batteries.

The underlying OS on both calculators is just an emulator, on top of which the old Saturn-based ROMS (and Saturn-based ASM progs, etc) are run. Since avr-gcc bypasses the emulator and operates directly on the ARM OS and hardware, there shouldn't be any speed difference between the 49g+ and the 39g+.

The 48gii has a slower CPU rating of 48 MHz, but it could also be overclocked. Probably to 128 MHz, if the same clock prescalers are being used on both calcs by default.

uh, 'avr-gcc' should be 'hp-gcc'. I spend my days working on embedded microcontrollers, and I guess I got my tools mixed up a little.
