HAL and America OnLine

What's going on with HAL?

Well, I'll tell you.

It seems that the America OnLine EFnet server went down about three hours
prior to the HAL Release Party. This is part of a long line of errors
throughout this week caused by system upgrades. EFnet has been pretty low on
AOL's "maintain some type of operation" list. As far as I know, it's still
down. I was able to conect for 15 seconds about an hour ago, so the problem
is definitely with them, not me.

To AOL's credit, this is the first time we've had this problem AND the first
time we've cared. (Notice how the two go together. Coincidence? Maybe.)

Meanwhile, the HAL Release Party has been rescheduled. The release party is
TENTATIVELY scheduled for Monday, same time, same place. I don't know if all
of the writers of HAL can attend this new time. If not (we'll know tomorrow),
we'll make it Tuesday or Wednesday. AOL may also become a determining factor.

So what about HAL? Are we gonig to have to wait until Monday?

No. A slightly altered beta version will be posted tomorrow at
<http://members.aol.com/EggplFarms/HAL>. The full version of HAL will be
available on Monday (tentative).

For those people still asking how to get onto IRC:
You need a special program. My reccomendation is mIRC. It's shareware and can
be downloaded here: <http://www.mirc.co.uk>.
To use it, you must download it, run the setup program, log onto the internet
with your normal provider, and run the mIRC executible. It automatically
connects to the server you select (please select EFnet) through the
connection to the internet made by your internet provider.
If you have any further questions or problems, feel free to ask.
