To see how to read in a string, check out some source code like the Sqrxz
source (a great source for lots of stuff, btw).

I've attached a little demo on writting strings.  I just cut all the
graphics and editing and loading funtions out of a map editor I made.  It
just saves a 64x64 map (4k) as a string and as an asm file.  It should
compile under any ANSI-compliant C/C++ compiler.  However, the only
compiler I tested it with was Watcom C/C++ 10.6, in case anyone cares...
