you can only change the contrast of the display. You CANNOT change the
darkness of individual pixels (grayscale), that would be great, but it's
not possible. Nor can you change the width of them. The TI-85 isn't the
17 inch monitor connected to your computer that you can change the
resolution of at any given moment to anything that you want, it's an LCD.
Like yout alarm clock, the LC cells were made to be a certian size, and you
cannot change them.
