Mode 7 is one of the things Nintendo was really proud of in the SNES. Mode 7 is the name for the rendering mode where you take a graphic and slant it/rotate it. This was used to create racing tracks for a lot of car game.

Couldn't someone just write an algorithm to do that? Come to think of it, it would be really hard *hides*

Whoa... that car racing game with the 3d graphics is really great. [I REALLY want my TI-89 back!!!] How long did that take you to do all of that? That's amazing...

Although the game looks awesome its nothing more than an animated gif so far as author abandoned his projects a long while ago. The site hasn't been updated for many months too. I'd however definitely love to try this game out. Maybe the guy could release the source so other can give it a try too... I think I emailed him sometime ago but never got a responce.

It's not really *that* hard. In about 20 minutes, I wrote a function (not a program) that takes in a list of (x,y) coordinates and returns the coordinates of the same points rotated an arbitrary distance about an arbitrary point. Scaling an image would be tougher...

I'd probably find scaling an image hard, but easier than rotating points and all of that. The hard part that I was thinking of was getting a sprite to rotate (at angles other than 90,180,270), or some textured figure. I did read that tutorial on 3d programming (twice). I'm starting to understand how you could implement that into a game, but I think it might be a little bit too tough to jump up and start with something big like that. Besides, it's no fun just to do it on VTI (since I can't test it with my 89 now), so I think I might postpone those ideas.

go download megacar for the ti-83plus it is a flash app, it doesn't have greyscale or carchoice and isn't quite as cool, but it isn't bad.
