AMS 2.08 Re-released
Posted by Michael on 20 February 2003, 23:54 GMT

It appears TI has been busy lately; AMS 2.08 for the 89, 92 Plus, and Voyage 200 has been re-released. It was pulled from download shortly after its original release upon the discovery of linking problems with TI Connect. Now it's been fixed and is available once again for download. You can snatch the 89, 92+, or Voyage 200 updates from TI's Online Store. Version 2.08 adds the icon desktop, new trig functions, flash app categorization, and most notably clock support.

AMS stands for Advanced Mathematics Software. It's the fancy name for the 68k calculator OS.

This is just horrible! Does anyone have any idea where to get AMS 2.05 back without getting it from a calc? Almost all my games dont work and HW2Patch doesn't work so i cant get DoorsOS!

Re: Screw this!

You can still use your games n AMS 2.08, but you need a Doors-compatible kernel that doesn't rely on hw2patch. I use PreOS, which work fine. it is available at http://www.timetoteam.fr.st/.

Note: PreOS has a single Pack-Library which contains better versions of many libraries. It is a good idea, but not necessary, too remove DoorsOS versions of these libraries.

Well, I think they might have added hotkeys to the apps desktop, but they definitely fixed the transmission problems. I'm going to download it someday soon.

I think they should call it AMS 2.08 Second Edition (AMS2.08SE) to go with the 83+ SE, despite the difference in nomenclature.

The problem with the timing issue was fixed by updating TI Connect. The problem itself is still there. In fact, I believe it is with the black link, as one page on the TI website said not to use the black link if you have AMS 2.08.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: AMS2.08SE

The reason that I said "TI-83+ SE" is because MirageOS is unstable on the platform, and I don't know why. Unless I need to get out more, the latest version of MirageOS is 1.1, and it is not completely compatable with the SE. I've seen the module that can be added to MirageOS that gives the user an Icon Desktop, but I cannot use it because I cannot use MirageOS :(

I was suggesting that someone write a shell similar to Izzard or to PalmOS for the TI-83+ SE (or fix MirageOS so it will work on SE calcs)

No, you don't need to do the backup (if you're using TI Connect 1.2 to update the OS). Use Actions -> Updates to check for and install an AMS update. TI Connect will automatically backup and restore RAM and archive variables for you.

Well, if it was any different, I suppose it would be called 2.09 or whatever. Or maybe 2.08001...
In any case, this does mean that TI is not really working like crazy. Perhaps next they will have the TI-keyboard page updated saying that it works with the 68k calcs now.
If the only problem was TI-Connect and with the black cable, then it does not make that they removed it at all, unless they tested it.

Technically, C programs *are* ASM programs - TIGCC compiles into ASM code, which is then compiled into machine code. You can actually view the ASM source to a C program if you configure TIGCC to *not* delete any .s files after building a project.

I knew that, but it always seemed to me that C programs were, for the most part, very stable on any ROM. I always imagined ASM programs to be written specifically for each ROM version, and since the 2.08 is different than 2.05, I thought that ASM programs would be the most likely not to function as well.

About ttstart... it's a launcher, right? Do you have to use it for every program, or could you just use a kernel/shell to automatically implement this?

     22 February 2003, 20:03 GMT

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: AMS 2.08 Re-released
Kevin Kofler
(Web Page)

You have to use a launcher for every program (which can be the generic ttstart or a custom launcher), but there is a tool called AutoStart at http://calc.gregd.org to automate this. (You type the name of the PPG into the entry line and press [ENTER], and it automatically adds the call to ttstart around it.)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: AMS 2.08 Re-released

I'm confused now. Is this "launcher" built into each program I compile? For most C programs (EQW, my C programs, etc.), I do not use any launcher program.

     23 February 2003, 18:23 GMT

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: AMS 2.08 Re-released
Kevin Kofler
(Web Page)

That 1 KB "program" ExePacked programs are shipped with is just a copy of ttstart customized to automatically launch the correct PPG. But for uncompressed programs smaller than 24 KB, no launcher is needed. EQW is such a program. (A launcher is needed for AMS 2.00-2.03 which have an 8 KB size limit. The eqwx "program" is such a launcher.)
