AMS 2.08 Released
Posted by Eric on 19 August 2002, 07:10 GMT

TI has recently released AMS 2.08 for the TI-89 and the Voyage 200. The new version includes added features such as more trig commands and a novel idea TI is referring to as "clack functionality" (yes, kiddos, I believe that should be "clock"). Anyway, give it a try.

On another note, I've decided to officially retire from ticalc.org, due to massive workloads and such. It's been interesting, but three years is about long enough, anyway. We're currently in the process of deciding how to proceed, so please don't flood our mailboxes volunteering your help just yet, thanks.

Update (Eric): Ok, it appears that TI has recalled AMS 2.08 due to errors with the Black Graph Link cable and TI-Connect.

Note to people with Windows XP--Windows XP will try to save this as a .asp file, and you have to wade through folder options to deselect "hide extensions of known file types", then you have to remove the .asp from the filename. This may only occur in Mozilla, but I doubt it.

It's not the os that is the problem, it is the browser. Opera in XP downloaded it just fine.

If you have a USB cable, you're screwed. If it's serial, use TIGL, not TI Connect.

I have TI-Connect and I hate it already! I just got it today. I can't send files to either my TI-83+ or my TI-89, and the dumb program can't detect my link port! Also, TI didn't say which Com Port is for which connector on the back of the PC! All it says in the documentation is "Com Port 1", "Com Port 2", etc, till it says USB cable. I click on USB (is THAT what I am supposed to do for the silver link?) and it says cannot open Com Port. I open TI-Graph Link, and USB cable is not an option.

Oh well, I'm going back to Black Link until someone can give some help/advice.

TI Graph Link was written for Windows 3.1, WAY before USB.

The USB cable doesn't work with the PC (most of the time, you however may have written your own software, or just configured it corretly, so I don't care if it works on you winbloze machine or not). It was originaly designed for the Mac, and as far as I know, doesn't support winbloze yet. So go back and use your black serial link. And Ti Connect, despite its eary resemblence to RealOne, works better most of the time for sending programs, but not flash ones, it never works for me on flash apps.

disregarde the whole USB thing, Im wrong. And dammit, I hate this POS ticonnect, it crashes more than windows does!! Is it just me or is Ti tring to make my life more difficult with its latest releases? Their following in Microsofts footsteps, make is as crappy as possible.

At least Microsoft's trying to improve. Windows XP hasn't crashed on me yet! (Then again, 98 SE didn't crash much either. Maybe it's just me, but I personally think that the people who get crashes a lot with Windows either don't know what they're doing or are unlucky.)

You must be on drugs. 98 SE Crashed more than 95! But XP is much better. I still sometimes get the blue screen of death with XP (I abuse operating systems).

WinXP runs perfect for me... never crashed once. I have the USB cable, and it transfers everything perfectly with TI-COnnect.

Nope. I'm not on drugs. But I've never used 95 so I wouldn't be able to compare it with 98 SE. I switched from a 10 year old WIn 3.1 486 to a Win 98 SE PII. So I didn't get to experience 95.
