CellSheet for TI-89 and TI-92+ Released
Posted by Eric on 14 December 2001, 06:57 GMT

TI has recently released CellSheet for the TI-89. It's basically a portable spreadsheet for your calculator with all the basic features of any computer spreadsheet program. It also supports linking with Microsoft Excel and other computer programs. Sounds good...but there's a catch, of course. It's $15. Thanks to Olivier Miclo for the news.

Update (Eric): Yeah, yeah, there's a TI-92+ version too. Sheesh.

Well, I know it's a shameless plug, but I did release a spreadsheet program (CSpread) for the TI-86 about 2 years ago with many of the features of this TI-89 app. It didn't have support for many standard mathematical functions, but it supported some of the basic ones, and it had full support for exporting/importing to/from Excel. And it was free... :-)

Unfortunately, I had to stop working on it and never got round to porting it to the TI-89 as I became too busy with University work. Ah well...

Having looked at this and the other apps that TI have offered for their calculators, I don't really think any of them are worth the amount they're asking. Many are equalled in quality and features by some of the free programs available (I'm thinking largely about the periodic table of elements app here). And of course, they're not selling any games... :-)

I wish they'd at least have a free trial version so we could see what it would look like before we spend $15. Also, the DATA editor on the 89 already does functions like a spreadsheet, but only by columns, not rows or cells.

The truth is that TI inc. is falling. ticalc.org is like the knight in their chess board. If TI inc. wants to sell products that could make their assets increase then the products has to be very useful in the calculators. I'm not saying that the excel thing is bad, I'm saying why will a person use that for the calculator when they can use it for the pc with many better features. TI inc. has very good programmers but very bad managers. But TI is still #1 in calc. atleast for now.

Paying for a FLASH App? Who's going to buy it? Someone will just sit down and write a free version, which will probably be much better. Blah.

i wouldn't worry about this flash app, there is a similar program that is going to be released that will be free with more features and a greyscale interface. the person that is writing the spead sheet program can be found at http://calc.psigoo.com/

A beta of TISS will be available in 1-2 weeks. In the meantime try my other programs. I have had little feedback on my recently released beta (very beta) of Lode Run: Monks' Wrath.

Hi,

A bit late for a thread dated 2001, but still:

Is that TISS project finished, and where can I get it?

Or does someone have the real Cellsheet app for me? please send me one of both apps to stan@finetuned.nl

Thank you very much!

See what's happened, having all these free programs on ticalc.org and other websites have made us all so spoiled. ;-)

i KNEW once the archives were up that the staff would take a break... no offense or anything... i was just hoping that you'd get the pending files gotten rid of with the same speed that you reviewed the archives.

this program does not work the "first error that you have to skip that is in the text file is the certificate and the app will not work without it so don't waste your money or your time on ti-cellsheet.
