TI Connect Announced
Posted by Eric on 18 July 2001, 11:02 GMT

I'd like to apologize for the recent lack of updates...the whole ticalc.org staff has been jetting all over the place this summer. Personally, I'm approximately 9,000 miles from my usual news-posting location (a.k.a. "home"), but anyway, onto the news. Justin Clifford sent me word of the next-generation TI-Graph Link that TI announed a little while back. It's known as TI Connect, and includes features of the TI-Graph Link software plus a bunch of new ones. Find out more information here. TI Connect is scheduled to be released at the end of this year, but of course, this estimate might change. Check it out anyway.

Any one know what up at ti-fr? It asked for a password. Are they having problems or is it no longer public?

What is it with link software, anyway? Because it's USB, TI could have easily wrote a little firmware and made the calc emulate a storage device. Then you could use copy files to and from the calc in the same way you would copy files onto a floppy disk. No software...

Even a floppy disk has more storage than any calc and much faster too!

Actually, the SE has 1.5 MB of flash plus the 128K RAM chip (of which 32K is accessible currently). That's more than 1.44 MB for a standard 3.5" HD disk, however there are extended formats where you can format a HD disk for 1.68 or 1.72 MB.

Thanks for the correction, though writing to floppy disks is still faster than to calc via a graph link.

That's true but that wasn't what he meant. All you need is a hot pluggable external harddrive emulating device that communicates with the calc in the right protocol. Sending data to the calc is then simply done by copy/pasting or drag-n-dropping a file on the extra drive you get. Receiving is then done the other way around. Speed is not important.

BTW: Very good idea of Jeff. I would buy it if it existed.

Lol,to reply to a post way up there somewhere, I have actually touched a Ti-73,yes they do exist,not just in pictures... Goto Staples and check thier calc section,its with the cell phones. I used the 73,its not *that* bad actually, I also tried out some of those nifty lookin HP's

so the 73 is real, and not just a legond? (jk) they dont have one at my office max, and being i am not looking for one, i havnt been to many other store's calc department. plus, office max is closer to me than staples, or office depot for that matter, so i go to office max. i didnt think the 73 was doing good, but just reading the mb's, people are saying they are. i think the 86 is more popular though.

Ok, I had this explained to me last week. Uh...

ph34r = fear
3v1l = evil
l33t = leet
n4k1d = nakid
5k1lls = skills

Ok... interesting, but I don't want your n4k1d 5k1lls.

A classic case of leetspeak: pseudocryptic symbolics combined with terrible spelling and lackluster grammar. Also, check your signal-to-noise ratio.

1337 speak is cool i guess, except for when retards get out of control and it comes out like

&#JSLL @(*|!|~|||~|~?/>,m

and means nothing...

cs tag=[|V|@rveL]|2eD $kuLL

which is more then enough goofball characters. There was a program called LeetSpeak where you type in a phrase and it spits it back out in leet, or ultra-leet=insanely dumb (see example above)
