News Editor Changes
Posted by Nick on 12 September 2000, 03:49 GMT

We're making a few changes behind the scenes at ticalc.org. First of all, Nathan Haines and Eric Sun (not in that order) have taken over as news editor. Second, as you may have sensed from the previous sentence, I'm no longer working as news editor at ticalc.org anymore. I'm still on board to manage the screenshot staff and any other odd jobs the staff may have, but various activities such as impending college and its ilk have caused me to not have time to post news.

Thank you to everyone who has given me support and kind words over the past year and a half of my being a staff member. If you have news you want posted at the site, please use our news alias at news@ticalc.org. Sending direct emails to me will be ignored. Thanks! :)

If you think Nick quitting (from just news, nonetheless) more sad than someone dying, I'd say you have you have no sense of proportion.

Nick is a great writer. Nay, he's an *excellent* writer. There is no doubt about that.

But better to the point that his resignation is worse than a person dying? I think not.

That's obvious. Yours is the most logical reply to that comment, but it's sad to see living Nick leaving.
I think he feels Nick as a closer person, me and the rest too. Almost nobody knew wormhole before... anyway you're right, many inocent people are dying now, and I can say 2 words: world sucks. maybe.

ticalc_staff_are_slackers

first of all, this was probly not serious.

that said, the importance of something is not the same for all people. if you knew both of these people, then death is certainly much more influential. OTOH, if you've never heard of this guy, how can you be genuinely sad about it?

in my opinion, somebody quitting anything's not as sad as someone dying, but it's all subjective.

Hey, I realized that it sounded bad and I considered asking someone to remove it, to me wormhole is completely unknown (until very recently) but I love nicks wonderful news items. Of course a person leaving us is more important and especially at such a young age, and I really do feel sorry for him, his friends and fammily. I apolpogize for that coment, and I hope I havent upset anyone too bad.

That much connectivity shouldn't be put in the hands of ANYONE, not even the Great Uberleet BlueCalx:)

Seriously though, how would it be possible NOT to abuse that much bandwidth? I'm hoping that's the total connectivity for the whole campus. Yeah, it would have to be.

It is the total connectivity for the whole campus. 4,000 students + faculty + library connections + universiry services + whatever else I'm forgetting.

As for that much bandwidth, it shouldn't be put in the hands of ANYONE. NOT A SINGLE HUMAN BEING.

...except you. :)

That much bandwidth would certainly overwhelm my pathetic little computer (200mhz pentium mmx, 96MB RAM, 12.6GB+3.2GB HDDs (both EIDE on the same channel:( )).

That much bandwidth would almost certainly crash anything short of a large Beowulf cluster or possibly one of the newer Cray supercomputers (or of course the Borg Collective).

Would a computer being overwhelmed by its internet connectivity be called being webshocked? Or would it be called the /. effect (wait...that only applies to webservers...nevermind:))?

I guess this is the end of myriads of news that call Patrick Davidson delicious, refer to Joe "My last name is impossible to spell and pronounce" Wingbermuehle, and "Hunky Dory" news items among other things. Good bye, radium infused TI89.

Yeah, Nick was great. The news will lose something with him gone... anyway just a nitpick, If I remember correctly, it was the (striked out) delicious (/striked out) Patrick Davidson.

Hardy Har Har... wouldn't radium make the TI-89 GREEN, not blue and nonfunctional?
Maybe not...I don't know because I have never tried. Anyways, I haven't gotten to the effects of radium in my chemistry class yet.
