AMS v2.03 Language Localization Update
Posted by Nick on 18 February 2000, 02:53 GMT

Remember that unter-AMS for the TI-89 that came out a long time ago.. you know, version 2.03?
Are you French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portugese, Danish, Hungarian, Norwegian, Finnish or Swedish? Are you from the Netherlands?
I'm not! But if you are, you may be interested to know that TI has released new Language Localization add-on packs for AMS v2.03. 89 and 92 Plus versions are snaggable. Finally, something that makes AMS v2.03 worthwile for some of us :) Seriously, it's great to see TI doing something like this. The language barrier has been a major problem in the calculating world, and this could get a lot more people who don't speak English interested in TI's.

Yeah! I've been keeping the the old 5 on my calculor since they came out just because I like saying derivata and integrale : ) Now I can learn calculus in 10 languages!

By the way: First Comment : )

Aww... no fair... I didn't reload ticalc.org for a while after I came, and I didn't see the news. It said no comments cuz I didn't reload after you guys wrote yours. And I thought I was gonna get 1st comment too for once... :)

hey everyone, I need help.
I just upgraded to AMS 2.03 and downloaded stats/editor lists, and games and etc. etc.
However I can't seem to do the things I used to do on AMS1.00, like integrate with a lo and hi, (area of a function) and it will no longer "solve(" equations for me. Under the "catalog" list, it tells what to put in for every option, but what's weird is things like: for integrate( it says expr, var[,low,up] For some reason brackets are thrown in random places for different things under catalog.
Also, does anyone know if txtrider will come out with a version compatable for AMS 2.03?

The brackets are there to let you know that the parts in the brackets are optional.

but it says "Error: Argument must be a Boolean expression or integer" when I choose the option of upper and lower bounds

I had the same problem before, it seems that this happends when the shell becomes corupt. I reset the calc and reloded all my stuuf, i had no problems after.

just to verify my theory, did you by any chance have the game "falldown" downloaded to your ti89?
Because I don't think it's an error in Doors or the AMS 2.03 (I think it's just that falldown is just not compatable, either that or the creator of falldown is playing a trick on everyone)

What he's complaining of are symptoms of DOORSOSII v.92 and possibly v.93... they cause certain mathematical functions to screw up. You must reset the memory with 2nd+left+right+on or 2nd+lock+on depending on your calc (89/92+). This will fix the problems with your mathematical functions on the calculator.

I have doorsosII v.93, i tried simply uninstalling doors (didn't work).
MY GOD, reseting my calc worked!!! even after I installed doors again, thanx man. I'm SO happy.
(sigh)

ATTENTION EVERYONE!!!
I FIGURED OUT WHEN (SORDA' WHY) THE ABOVE ERROR OCCURS,
It happens after you play even just ONE game of "falldown". (I think it's called falldown, it's the ball that drops and you have to keep it dropping so it doesn't smash into the ceiling.

Hmmm, dangit. I don't think this applies only to Falldown - on my HW2 AMS 1.05 89, some mathematical functions (like the integral) becomes crashful if you execute their commands. I never ran a game of falldown on my calc before, and I think this error is caused from either Phoenix, SMQ, Tetris89, Sokoban, etc etc in which I've ran previously on my calc.

Dangit - if games are going to mess up my main function of my calc, then I think I'd better forgo the games.

OK, as simple as it yet seems, I went through all of the games that are capable of being playing on my HW2 AMS 1.05 calc with DoorsOS II 0.92, and I've found out that all my games but Frogger will corrupt your mathematical functions. So, quick tip of the day: don't get Frogger until a better version is released which will not conflict with the mathematical abilities of the calculator.

Oh yeah, quick question - who here was able to download DoorsOS II 0.93? I download the OS but upon installing it onto my calc, it says DoorsOS II 0.92 installed. Either they've forgotten to update those numbers or I'm just paranoid...

Yes, I know this is verrry off topic, but:

Can anyone tell me the equation for the graph on the screen of the pic of the 89 in the ticalc.org title picture (the little 3D graph that kinda looks like a condom, hehe)? It's driving me crazy that I can't do it.

I think this might be the one you're looking for (if it's not, it looks cool anyway):

z=(20 cos ((x^2+y+2)/4))/(x^2+y^2+[pi])

Window Values:
eye theta (the oval with the horizontal line through it): 20
eye phi (the circle with the vertical line through it): 70
eye psi (the trident): 0
xmin: -5
xmax: 5
xgrid: 20
ymin: -5
ymax: 5
ygrid: 20
zmin: -1.2953
zmax: 6.3662
ncontour: 5.

I haven't checked these out personally, but I remember reading somewhere that the language packs changed the commands for many Basic functions. If that is true, it would make running basic programs written on a calc with a different language installed very difficult. Could someone enlighten me further regarding that issue?

The change in language modes will correct all programs so that they can run. If you had a program with the 'for' statement it will automatically be translated into the other language when you switch modes. Unfortunately, if you use 'setMode' or 'getMode' the strings will not be translated. you should use the number arguements listed in the manual for AMS 2.0x

By the way, are OFF and ON really words in spanish. I am trying out the Spanish update and I noticed that OFF and ON were used in some FORMAT windows.

Thanks.
I am in Spanish 3, and I am fairly certain that "off" and "on" are not Spanish words.

The localization is free, but not Open Source. Instead we have licence agreement: "Do not reverse engineering". If they published source, we would have localized versions also for Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Albania, Polland, Czech republic, Slovakia,
Romania, Lithuania, Malta, Latvia, Estonia, the most of african countries, Esperanto community, Vatican (Latin), and in romanized form for many other countries.
